Morning lovely peopl of the Fediverse.
My current contract will come to an end in August, so I am on the lookout for my next gig.
- Frontend JavaScript developer with 15+ years experience
- Fond of VueJS, minimal frameworks, Vanilla JS (but also React experience over the years)
- CSS advocate. Currently using super modern CSS on this project which has been awesome, feel free to ask me about it if you like.
- Accessibility advocate, trying to push to make sure code and markup is as accessible as it can be. WCAG, ARIA and A11Y.
- Communication skills - Advanced! (love being a team player)
- All round nice fellow you could introduce to your friends and family.
- Contract ideally, will consider Perm but has to be a good fit.
I am UK based (in the East Midlands) but really looking for remote.
Also I know the market is odd now, maybe not once what it was, and LinkedIn seems to be a bit flaky, so if you have recommendations for other platforms, hit me with it.
Retoots very welcome 😊

From what career consultants call a "portfolio career," I have 6 resumes: acting, teaching, writing, content strategy, production and admin.
Just put them together into 1 page for an application, and it's, dare I say it, kinda fancy in some ways. It's almost like I've done stuff, like a real boy.

[in the US – and beyond? – recruiting, especially technical recruiting, is very badly broken and ineffectual, with hiring managers not getting to see the most viable and valuable candidates]

Looks like I now have another job interview set up for Monday afternoon with a very interesting company.
Super excited about this one as well, as it's doing what I've been doing, but of course in a completely different field than Android launchers.

Would really love to find a Staff-like remote full time role in the US working, ideally, in #Ruby but also open to
I've experience in many different programming languages/stacks from decades in the field: Ruby and Java (over a decade each), C, Erlang, Golang, Python, PERL, JavaScript, and several others.
I've experience both as a manager of up to 15 people (5 years) and an IC (decades).
Server-side of distributed systems is my jam. REST API design and enhancement, job processing, data warehousing, event sourcing, authorization systems, etc. I've experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Postgres, Redis.
I've experience with machine learning from before it was hot, ETLing data from various sources to sanitize it enough to build a model against it.
Test Driven Development is how I design and write my best code. It's more than "writing the tests first".
I believe in operating the software that I write/maintain. Having skin in the game helps ensure that the software runs well. I'm comfortable with healthy oncall expectations.
Also very open to learning more. I've been eager for an excuse to get my hands dirty with Rust and Elixir.
Boosts appreciated.

Because I'm very, very part-time consulting at the moment, I'm also taking on copyediting/proofreading freelance jobs. 📖 🖋
I'm happy to look at any type of manuscript: blog-posts, technical writing, novels, you name it. I've got experience working with all sorts of writing, from adventure fiction to medical terminology. I am an expert at maintaining the flavor of a piece, be it the author's personal voice or an academic/encyclopedic tone.
I am available for contract directly, or through Upwork (not preferred, but I am on there). Send me a query! 🙂
