And why today? Because I want SeedVault working, and it seems to fail after a bit when I tell it to back up to a USB stick.
So with USB out of the running, I set up a webdav server. And with that built, maybe I'll find other ways to use it. Shared calendar? Joplin? Who knows? For now, SeedVault is grinding away, writing inscrutible stuff to its webdav share.
I'm assuming (but don't really know) that SeedVault is storing data according to the user account, and that using any account isn't a key to everything on that webdav server. I guess we'll find out.
Plus side, new certificates signed with my CA won't need to be imported to each device that wants to use them, so that's a definite win.

Moto G32 now running the phoenix risen #calyxos and gradually getting everything back together.
The #seedvault backup worked very well, no glitches at all, but will be a few days of fiddle about.

The only Android backup application I know of is #Seedvault https://github.com/seedvault-app/seedvault
Google refuses to integrate offline backup functionality.

@leeloo Seedvault has been a good backup for me, even tested after a manual update of a community ROM.

Today I Installed #GrapheneOS on a #Pixel 10a, which went fine. But transferring apps, files and settings from my old #LineageOS phone isn't happy.
I can't back up with #SeedVault on the old phone, and restore that backup on the new, which is mildly infuriating - either using my #NextCloud or a USB pendrive.
I also can't manually transfer my Signal account across - the phones can't "find" each other even though they're right next to each other.

Also #Nextcloud und #DAVx5 eingerichtet, was 10-15 stabil lief, dann immer wieder abbrach und nun bricht Seedvault nach ca. 80% regelmäßig ab. Gibt es vielleicht funktionierende Alternativen?

Přechod mezi telefony je na Androidu pořád hodně práce
Konečně je GrapheneOS dostupný také pro Pixel 10 a já na něj mohl konečně přejít. Jak jednoduchá byla migrace na nový telefon? GrapheneOS má nejpokročilejší zálohovací/migrační nástroj, jaký jsem na Androidu zkoušel, jak ale píšu v článku, i tak je to pořád z nemalé části manuální proces.

Sure, there's #SeedVault. Use with #webdav target or stow away a device-local file to a safe storage via #syncthing. The same for photos/media files.
But SeedVault excludes many apps like @signalapp or @threemaapp which has a buch of manual backup options hidden deep in the settings.
Can I automate that somehow?

Argh!🤬 #FDroid won't let me install Quickly Quit https://blog.timcappalli.me/p/preso-authn25/ on my new (to me) #PixelPro9Fold on #GrapheneOS. I had it installed in my old #PixelFold, but #SeedVault won't restore it 😢
F-Droid blocks it because it as not compatible, which is probably why Seed Vault wouldn't restore it.
My alternate solution: just pull down the menu, select the on/off icon, then select lockdown.
This prevents a power button push giggling the device and breaking wireless Qi charging connection.

Mal Seedvault benutzt? 🌱 "brauchbar"? 🧐🤣
Vollständige Backups sind Beta, leeren die Hälfte meiner Caches und loggen mich bei manchen Apps aus.
Erfolgreich war 🌱 nach einer Stunde rödeln nicht. Bei nur ca. 50GB Daten.
Die Entwickler empfehlen ein Backup auf den internen Speicher. Um es später zu kopieren 🤓
Ich sage nicht, dass #GrapheneOS und #Seedvault schlecht sind, im Gegenteil. #Android scheint einfach nicht drauf ausgelegt zu sein, saubere Backups (ohne Root) zu erstellen. -

Even with #Seedvault backups, this is a total pain. Actually, Seedvault has been next to useless in my experience, I find ways to back up each app individually, which of course takes a ton of time and effort.

Me gustaría saber cuándo Google va añadir a #AOSP la posibilidad de hacer copias de seguridad. #LineageOS incluye desde hace bastante tiempo #SeedVault.
Eliminar ADB backup fue un error añadido al error de no permitir acceso mediante la IGU.

I am really happy with #iodeOS. Had to reset my #fairphone. restore with #seedvault worked great. had to reinstall some stuff, but most stuff was there

wie sichert ihr eigentlich eure Daten vom Handy?
also insbesondere die Android Fraktion.
ich nutze auf meinen Geräten Round Sync in Kombination mit meiner persönlichen #Nextcloud (gemietet).
zusätzlich kann Ich mein älteres Handy noch dank #lineageos mit #Seedvault sichern.
Kalender und Kontakte sind mit der Nextclour synchronisiert und werden dank Fossify Apps auch zusätzlich als Datei gesichert.
ich bin ganz zufrieden.

I really like the backup function in #GrapheneOS based on #Seedvault. I know it doesn't work 100%, some apps don't support it etc. But in my case >90% of apps get backed up and restored.
This is what all Androids should have. I understand #Google doesn't want to do it because for them #Android is just a gateway to their services and when you have all your data in their cloud, you don't need such backups. But other Android vendors should have it.

So 12 hours with #IodeOS maybe a bit early for feedback. But I'm thrilled. Everything is running. Unlike #eOS I have Android 15 and #seedvault is running. I had to set up a #ntfy server (hello #uberspace) so #moshidon (#fdroid) pushes, but that's not bad.
I know there are even freer #androids out there, but for me it's a mix of privacy, simplicity and a whole lot of good feeling.
Also important: it has to run on the #fairphone5, because I specifically bought it for sustainability. -

To my surprise, Lineage OS 22 SeedVault worked near perfect to restore my apps & files to my non-root android phone from a backup in external storage.
This is the first time SeedVault has produced an acceptable result, apps which didn't get restored properly might be their own fault.
I'd like to explore and find out what makes SeedVault tick, then one day I might finally have my dream of perfect offline data restoration to a Lineage OS device.

Ihmettelen tässä #LineageOS :n käyttämää #Seedvault varmuuskopiointisovellusta. Yhtenä vaihtoehtona on käyttää DAVX5-palvelinta.
Eikös moinen ole ihan Caldav? Miten sillä pystyy varmuuskopioimaan esim. sovellukset ja omat kuvat?
