I might have a baby redbud 🥹 Unless it's a weed whose seed flew into the pot 😄 We'll have to wait and see (but it's in the middle, where I put the little bean, so it should be it).
In other news, it seems my (potted) wisteria probably froze this harsh winter. It was slow to start growing leaves last year, too, but I feel like it's too late at this point 😞

Baby lemony basil just starting its second set of leaves!
I wrote alt text but in my sleepy headed state couldn’t come up with a good description of the interesting shape of the initial cotyledon leaves.
I really enjoy having a camera app with manual focus on my iPhone for photos like this one. An old version of Obscura.

Finally got around to replanting my tree seedling/clone experiments, something I've kinda neglected to do for far too long.
The two surviving Thujas I grew from seeds were half dead and their roots look not so great, but apparently thujas do have brown roots, so maybe they'll make it.
The clones from spruce cuttings had mostly not managed to develop roots and I got a little sad about that until I got to this one, which somehow was rocking huge roots and a fresh sprouting tip at the top 🥳
A few others had a tiny start of a root. They're all planted out front in a little tree school row now. I think that one will at least make it!

#SouthAustralia - #PointPearce #FirstNations #CultureGarden
"#LandcareAustralia is proud to partner with #PointPearceAboriginalCorporation in establishing a First Nations community-led conservation and education project. Located in South #Australia’s Point Pearce in the #WardangIsland #IndigenousProtectedArea (IPA), the project is led by the #TraditionalOwners, the #Narungga people, and aims to support #Indigenous youth to learn about their Cultural heritage and knowledge that will lead to career and leadership pathways in #EnvironmentalConservation.
At the heart of this initiative is the Point Pearce First Nations Culture Garden, a space where #Elders, #FirstNationsRangers, and #IndigenousYouth come together to bridge and transfer #CulturalKnowledge. Designed as a hands-on learning environment, it will inspire young people to explore environmental conservation, deepen their appreciation for the natural world and discover career pathways that utilise Cultural knowledge.
The Culture Garden will feature a #medicinal and #ceremonial plant area, #NativeBushFoods, water features to attract #wildlife, #SensoryGarden, and dedicated spaces for learning and Cultural practice. With a #seedling #propagation zone, a #NativeSeed cleaning station, a fruit and nut #orchard, and interpretive walking trail. More than just a garden, it serves as a ‘cultural learning hub’—fostering pride and offering a comprehensive setting for community events, educational programs, and vocational training opportunities. With funding from #OneTreePlanted, the tree planting will also help #restore #NativeVegetation and improve habitat for threatened species including the Southern Hairy-nosed #Wombat.
Aligned with the South Australian Department for Education’s Aboriginal Education Strategy, the project aims to inspire engagement, Cultural pride, and environmental responsibility among First Nations students. It focuses on educational outcomes and how Cultural activities can play in enhancing social and academic competence among First Nations students."

Guide to writing fiction with AI
I started this journey out of frustration. I’ve had a story languishing in my mind (one of many!) that wouldn’t stop nagging me each night. So, one day, I decided to let AI write it for me by sending it my storybeats (description or outline) with the dialogue I have of each chapter.
Since then, I got more and more curious about the process. I started wondering out loud if writing fiction with AI is as evil as the writing community made it sound.
Experimenting with AI fiction writing made me more aware about my creative writing processes. This helped me clarify what processes I will outsource to AI, and what I will keep.
🌿If you’re following my website via RSS or subscription, please note that this is just a “seedling” or a post where it is a work in progress.
