The State of #Nebraska spent $1.2 million on a web portal to connect children and families with Christian organizations.
On top of that, DHHS is bragging about the "economic impact" of the program. Human service programs shouldn't be measured based on economic benefits to private organizations.

When I come across a new version of something that gets attention in a positive way as if it is a new creation, my mind goes somewhere else.

Those of us raised in religious homes were taught that prayer was our most powerful tool. Indeed, prayer can make us feel like we have some agency when disaster strikes - but it mainly serves to calm our own nervous system & make us feel like we are "doing something."
Now that we have rejected magical thinking & embraced reality, our best bet for helping those in distant lands recover from tragedy is through donations to reputable relief agencies. #criticalthinking #SecularHumanist #prayer
