The State of #Nebraska spent $1.2 million on a web portal to connect children and families with Christian organizations.
On top of that, DHHS is bragging about the "economic impact" of the program. Human service programs shouldn't be measured based on economic benefits to private organizations.

When I come across a new version of something that gets attention in a positive way as if it is a new creation, my mind goes somewhere else.

Those of us raised in religious homes were taught that prayer was our most powerful tool. Indeed, prayer can make us feel like we have some agency when disaster strikes - but it mainly serves to calm our own nervous system & make us feel like we are "doing something."
Now that we have rejected magical thinking & embraced reality, our best bet for helping those in distant lands recover from tragedy is through donations to reputable relief agencies. #criticalthinking #SecularHumanist #prayer

Especially engrain this truth in your being if you have narcissistic, manipulative, emotionally immature parents or other family members. #Christianity, in particular, fosters #codependency and makes it hard to enjoy life without constantly serving or caring for others like a martyr. 1. As an adult, parents remain in our lives by invitation only. We do not have to maintain family ties. 2. Forgiveness is not required for healing & growth, and it is often weaponized by abusers. Acceptance of reality is more important. 3. No one is coming to rescue you; you must save yourself. 4. You can do everything right & still experience pain & loss. 5. Oh forgot! I am a #HumanistAtheist (#Humanist, #Atheist #SecularHumanist), though often sharply critical of #WhiteManAtheism and Enlightenment Humanism in general. And I live in #CdA, #CoeurdAlene #NorthIdaho #InlandPNW #PNW. North Idaho politics still baffles me a lot of the time after four years here. But I've found a lot of great #Progressive activists here, and a great #disability community, oddly enough.

Among all U.S. adults, 29% are nones — those who identify as atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular” — according a 2021 report by the Pew Research Center. That’s up 10 percentage points from a decade earlier. And the younger the adults, the more likely they are to be unaffiliated, according to a 2019 Pew analysis, further signaling the growing clout of the nones.
