It's now official, I'm going to be a student again at the tender age of 57. I'll be starting a two-year, part-time pedagogy study to become a second-career science teacher.
When we moved to Norway 18 years ago, I was asked if I wanted to teach at our local school, nevermind that I had no formal pedagogy education. That was in 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, and that year I won the national IYA school competition with my pupils.
I have worked several years as substitute teacher and visited schools in my region with popular science education events in collaboration with our local science center.
But now, I don't even get invited for a job interview by our local schools, even though our municipality has been complaining about not being able to recruit good teachers. Apparently, without formal qualifications, your track record is not important.

Heading to #rubyconf next week and was reminded of this blog post I wrote after attending for the first time in 2017 as part of the scholars program.
A huge thanks to everyone I met back then. I had no idea looking back how pivotal that conference was to my career and life going forward.

#introduction I'm trying to work out if this is the right place for me. I'm a #yoga teacher, #pilates instructor and #personaltrainer. I'm also a #breastcancer survivor, and studying for my #secondcareer because life is too short to not go for your dreams. I love #dogs and #cats and #gardening. I wish I could find a local #choir. #singing makes me happy.
