  1. Neighborhood stuff
    1. A great blue heron? 2. I dunno what this was about, but OK, then. 3. A seasonally painted erstwhile Halloween pumpkin now full of love... but that troll is still there!

  2. Went to check the analemmatic sundial at Uprep HS, and it works very well in winter! This is at high noon (the sun is still winter low)

  3. Did I mention it's been foggy the last two days? And it's raining. Here are dewberry (Rubus ursinus) canes trained to grow overhead so I can stare at leaf veination against a white sky.

  4. Mount Tahoma at sunset. This is about as clear a view as I ever get of Mount Tahoma from the top of Maple Leaf Hill.

A sad anecdote in our community garden news: yesterday volunteers were going to turn over the compost. They couldn't even get a pitchfork into the frozen masses in the bins! The soil is frozen too, so turning anything over is doomed. BUT...if the compost was fermenting, should it have frozen? I know the piles haven't been turned since I started my gardens there, so that's 18 months, way too long.
