"Cherry red , sweeter than the honeycomb..." Hellebores providing more color joy in winter-almost-spring
(That line is from the BeeGees song)

Bad bunny show
I couldn't resist, and I'll bet the gardener couldn't either because the bunny was moved recently.

The sun is out momentarily! Here are some just plain pink camellias

Crocus bonanza
Crocuses are busy blooming in lawns, peeking out from leaves, being fresh and telling us spring is near

I saw my first honeybee of the season, busily gathering pollen from blooming hazelnut trees (not the natives, which are still thinking about spring).

Neighborhood stuff
1. A great blue heron? 2. I dunno what this was about, but OK, then. 3. A seasonally painted erstwhile Halloween pumpkin now full of love... but that troll is still there!

Went to check the analemmatic sundial at Uprep HS, and it works very well in winter! This is at high noon (the sun is still winter low)

Somehow lichens growing on the side of a fence like this look alien to me. But why shouldn't they grow that way?

Bright cheery hellebores
That bright green "lawn" is a moss lawn, grass interspersed with a lot of moss, which some people actively work on.

Did I mention it's been foggy the last two days? And it's raining. Here are dewberry (Rubus ursinus) canes trained to grow overhead so I can stare at leaf veination against a white sky.

Mount Tahoma at sunset. This is about as clear a view as I ever get of Mount Tahoma from the top of Maple Leaf Hill.

Now is the frost season in the PNW. Frosty frost still is beautiful.

A sad anecdote in our community garden news: yesterday volunteers were going to turn over the compost. They couldn't even get a pitchfork into the frozen masses in the bins! The soil is frozen too, so turning anything over is doomed. BUT...if the compost was fermenting, should it have frozen? I know the piles haven't been turned since I started my gardens there, so that's 18 months, way too long.
