This outcome is the most fair resolution to combine both plans for universal school meals and food assistance when school is out. Thanks to the mayor and council for prioritizing compassion and respect: as seen in some comments, this model of governance will stay with all our SPS students.

I’m a firm supporter of community housing models and was encouraged when council members Morales and Mosqueda visited Vienna and Nordic cities to observe and discuss housing with local officials and organizations, pre-pandemic. The real estate industry’s reliance on capitalist models here depends on boom and bust, prioritizes profits, exacerbating housing inequality, subverting community in elections. Media controlled backlash set us back, obscured visions.

Erica C Barnett has been critical of Housing Our Neighbors proposals in the past and offers perspectives on potential Seattle Council misdirections on the community housing funding. The previous council’s move of Jump Start funds from small business and other pandemic relief to the general fund is a painful lesson in the ways reactionary Seattle subverts progressive solutions. Current budget deficits are looming.

No wonder Katie Wilson is over ten percentage points ahead of Bruce Harrell: people here don’t want surveillance state but housing, childcare, wage fairness and transportation. Instead, what do we get from the Seattle Council? More cctv in Seattle, less accountability for police.

Glad the council managed to seat housing committee members at last and set guidelines for ts behavior around public commentary.

Arrogant incompetence of Saka and Nelson show their trust there will be no reckoning for their failure to face committee responsibilities. The powers supporting them have no interest in moving forward with any active housing solutions, making one wonder whether even Harrell’s efforts are cover for “no plan.” Disingenuous politics not to face public and nominees.

Seattle Council members again point out how they are incapable of understanding how government funding works in our city. Incompetence demands crisis management raiding of cooky jar funds to appear they know what they’re doing. Only council member Rinck has put forth a sensible proposal in “Seattle Shield” to protect city services funding, yet they want to throw those resources in the general fund.

Cathy Moore quits Seattle Council. She wants to dish out the venom, but can’t tolerate scrutiny and oversight from discontented constituents.

There is still time to write to the council expressing opposition to this corruption. And definitely time to vote these people out of office.
“…the bill would have allowed the council's two landlords, Mark Solomon and Maritza Rivera, to vote on an upcoming Moore bill to roll back eviction protections passed by the previous council.”

We have the worst city council these days. Inexperienced and incompetent. Here’s what the backlash to the protests against the murder of George Floyd looks like. Rule of landlords. Opportunists.

I get more information about what and why budgets in Seattle Council and Washington Legislature are failing in 5 minutes reading the South Seattle Emerald than I do in weeks from the Seattle Times.

Interesting interview with Dionne Foster, Seattle Council candidate for citywide seat currently held by the obnoxious Sara Nelson by Erica C.Barnett. She’s careful about her language and categorizing, understands some current city issues, process and tax policy (she worked on WA state capital gains tax legislation). Could be a fit.

More cuckoo from Seattle Council’s Sara Nelson. When do we vote her out? Isn’t she “at large?” Surely we can find a worthy political activist who’s capable of running a campaign that speaks to residents’ concerns instead of this back room beer babe. (NB, photo is not of Nelson but Port Commissioner Toshika Hasagawa who opposes Nelson’s double secret process.)

King County is one of the most progressive jurisdictions in the US, yet our retrograde Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison wants to contract with this private for profit jail, SCORE to take arrestees. PubliCola reports 11 people have died there in the last 2 years. One interview was with the solo RN substitute. Shame on

Anti rent gouging in #Seattle & #WAState is just common sense. Anti rent gouging by putting some limits on year to year rent increases that lead to self-eviction is good consumer protections.
#SeattleCouncil is largely made up of homeowners who bought themselves rent control. The idea that we can solve homelessness while allowing unlimited profits on housing and allow homeowners endless increases in their home value while renters just get higher and higher bills is wrong. -
CW: Harrell's climate executive order
1) is a commitment to building 3 *pilot* low-emissions neighborhoods by 2028. Specifically included is a super-block idea, which I really like.
*BUT* five years is a long time, and it's a rare infrastructure goal that gets done even close to on time.
Still, it's a start and CM Mosqueda can tie her plan to create a Capitol Hill super-block to this commitment.

I appreciate Debora Juarez' preference for brevity. (Why yes, I have been listening to city commissioners bloviating, how did you guess?)

Read about Teresa Mosqueda's comments on our comprehensive plan work in @urbanistorg . Just sent an email to her office to thank her for her work and those comments.

While of course I want yimby leaning candidates to run for Seattle city council in 2023 I care more about how they will vote on policing, sweeps, social housing, public bathrooms, human service worker compensation, rent control, income tax, public banking, municipal broadband & safe consumption sites.
