  1. If you want a decent photo of the Marsh Sandpiper at Black Hole Marsh, Seaton you'll have to look elsewhere. Nonetheless, a cracking bird to watch and with some great laughs in the hides too.

Also seen, Spotted Redshank, 2 Little Stint & a Wasp Spider.

Highlights were the Wood Sandpiper and Dave B finally seeing a Green Woodpecker 😂

  3. Up at 03:45 for a trip to #Dorset Good views of #Nightingale. Garden Warbler too. Even managed an atmospheric record shot. Then, later in the afternoon, to #BlackHoleMarsh #Seaton for the Black-winged Stilt; both still present (male & female). #UKBirding #birds #Devon #birdsofmastodon

  4. Devon and Cornwall have gone #Hoopoe mad! They're popping up all over the place. Before the Exeter City game v Wrexham, I had time to nip down to #Seaton Bowling Club to see one in glorious sunshine.

  5. Dave B and I couldn't find the Rose-coloured Starling that had been seen in #Seaton #Devon so decided to drive on to #Dorset to see if we could see the Holboell's Red-necked Grebe - I'd not heard of this subspecies before today.

The weather in Portland Harbour was not great but id improve during the hour we spent there - however, the good 'scope views did not translate to good camera views 😂

  6. The second round of #WaterQuality testing of bathing water by the Environment Agency is in progress.

It has revealed elevated levels of E. coli and intestinal enterococci in both tests at #Seaton, #Exmouh & #SandyBay in South East #Devon:

  7. I squeezed in a little #birding this morning with a visit to Black Hole Marsh ( #Seaton , #Devon ). A Little Stint had turned up there on its way south. This diminutive wader was a delight to watch through the 'scope as it scurried about feeding. The young Avocet were still about (remember - the first to be born in Devon?) as well as Greenshank, Redshank and Common Sandpiper. All in all a nice trip.

  8. A lucky day out & about. I stopped on a woodland track & a Firecrest went around & around me. A rarer but less elusive bird returned (Isabelline Wheatear) not far from where I'd gone so I nipped along to see it. And then, a Scaup, a pair of Goldeneye and a Sandwich Tern were all reported on the River Exe virtually on my way home. All of this lovliness in the #Devon sunshine.

  9. @tero

Maybe, but I see some issues: you'd end up with some hashtags that were ambiguous in whether they were location-based or not (the village of #Seaton is next to the village of #Beer for example, I kid you not...)

And you'd also have the issue of differing scales - do I subscribe to #SeafieldRoad, or #Seaton, or #Dorset? The dream goal for me is a system where I could paint onto a map the area within which I'd like to subscribe (with ability to control the brush size!)

  10. For example, I'm visiting #Seaton for the next couple of days and wanted to ask locals what kind of #apple trees are planted around the "Sea Front Gardens" Green inaturalist.org/observations/1 #iNaturalist

  11. I visited Black Hole Marsh, #Seaton early this morning to check out the first breeding #Devon #Avocet. It was peaceful and quiet and the Avocet were all present and correct - two adult, three young. Lovely to see this elegant wader. And they also lived up to their feisty reputation as parents - seeing off any birds that came too close

  12. Bit of a misty early morning walk along #seaton beach. Pretty mild which is welcome.

  13. A little bit of sunshine at the holiday camp is what's needed today! It's Warner's Seaton Holiday Camp in Devon and it's in our store here bit.ly/3VEvook

  15. Visited #Seaton #library today. Stepped off the bus and was almost blown sideways. Took a moment to watch the sea. Wonderfully stormy.

  16. I #photograph #Parkrun s from time to time and tried to photograph the first run of our local area ones. This is from the first official run along the promenade/seaside/beach at #Seaton, #Devon several years ago.
The #misty light rain in the morning light (Parkuns are 0900 here) provides a light and isolation from the world that I like, although there is something also to be said for standing in sunshine.
