Almost instant pumpkin pudding - first stage.
I was given this pie (sugar) pumpkin in my weekly farm share a week or so ago and couldn't think what to do with it until I remembered this recipe...*
I didn't know that you can cook a whole pumpkin in the pressure cooker, but...

Voilà! Now to find my pumpkin pie spice. I know it's here somewhere.
*You can easily sub canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)

Recipe for the pudding from the wonderful Forks Over Knives people is below.

  2. Asparagus peaks and pineapple picks up: Australia’s best-value fruit and veg for October
    By Isabella Lee

It’s a great month for vegetables, with snow peas coming in and whole heads of cauliflower and cabbage at low prices – but watermelons are looking worse for wear

Being a member felt like the right thing to do – and it was a boon during the pandemic. But oh, the emotional labour. I can never look at a turnip again

  5. A fig tree can force its way out of a wall and thrive with almost no help. Its fruit is the opposite: perfectly ripe figs are so soft and fragile that they barely tolerate being moved.

That tension explains a lot about the fig — why the best ones are eaten close to the tree, why drying became so important, and why this ancient fruit still belongs so strongly to place and season.

Pumpkin and rhubarb are in good supply for the last of the winter-ish meals, though hold off on ‘quite pricey’ limes

  8. After a couple of rather spectacular failures due to not paying attention, I have #syrup from the single black #maple I tapped very late in this year's season, out of curiosity. If the weather forecast holds, I should get another batch before the sap stops running.

  11. CW: Food, Seasons

Nothing tastes better than a spaghetti dinner on the first chilly night in September. I don't know why but it's a bath, a hug, a warm fire and a call from your best friend all at the same time. Thanks for dinner @yonabee

  12. So I have aubergines, carrots, beetroot, turnips, fennel, leeks, a savoy cabbage, garlic, mint and dill all for £12. I will be pickling some of the fennel and the turnips (one of the beetroots will go in with the turnips to give the gorgeous, traditional pink colour) and making a smoky tomato & lentil dish with the aubergines, then topped with feta & baked. I am awaiting inspiration for the rest.

  13. Right, I’m off to the market to buy seasonal veg & herbs to build my week’s menu around. First, however I have to locate my debit card in order to get actual cash out to pay for them! My phone will not work there. The pandemic definitely changed the way I pay for everything.

  15. First time cooking #vegetables in my diy trash #SolarOven- kinda funny I hadn't tried it yet!
It's a summer veggie stew inspired by Emmymade's recent "Glop" video (except #vegan). Corn, tomato, zucchini, green pepper, onion and garlic, with homemade #seitan beefy chunks. Seasoned with salt, pepper, oregano and olive oil.

It took a long time for the onion and peppers to soften, but it's pretty good. I put some of my solar-cooked pinto beans in when I ate it. Excellent!

The only time I've used any heating appliances in my kitchen today was the kettle for my morning coffee because the #SolarCooker was doing it instead. So cool! (Literally)

  16. Kirschen mit Tomatensoße

    Zutaten:
    500 g Süßkirschen
    400 ml passierte Tomaten
    250 ml Gemüsebrühe
    1 Zwiebel
    2 Knoblauchzehen
    2 EL Olivenöl
    40 g Tomatenmark
    25 ml Agavendicksaft
    40 ml Sojasauce
    40 ml Zitronensaft
    50 g Mehl
    1 Stange Rosmarin
    1 TL Paprikapulver
    1 TL Kreuzkümmel
    1 TL Oregano
    Salz und Pfeffer

    Zubereitung:

  17. Tonight I had my first taste of this season’s asparagus and it was glorious. I toasted it with ice cold cava and followed it up with excellent tapas whilst enjoying the new adaption of Agatha Christie’s ‘Why Didn’t the Ask Evans’. An excellent Friday night even if I already know why 😋

  18. One of my goals is to localize my #Mexican #cooking - instead of importing a bunch of stuff that goes into "real" #MexicanFood, especially during the winter, I want to get better at working with what grows here in the #PNW. Winter squashes; mushrooms; leeks; pears and apples; fiddleheads; salmon; even localized veggies from other cultures like #Chinese or #Japanese veggies.

Anyone have any inspiration or #recipes?

  19. One of my family's long-standing traditions is to spend the fall cooking all kinds of quince recipes. Quince is a fragrant yellow fruit in the apple and pear family that turns a rosy blush shade when cooked. I grew up participating in annual quince harvests, and now for years I've grown my own quince.

Among my favorite things to make during our annual quince fest is Membrillo, a sweet paste of Spanish origin that pairs well with cheese and is lovely in baked goods. For this Throwback Thursday I'm posting my photo of Membrillo with Manchego cheese and Marcona almonds, and a link to the recipe I originally published in 2015, and then again in 2017.

  20. One of my favorite things about my region's colder months is the seasonal food. I especially love winter squash, which comes with the bonus of having edible seeds that are delicious when roasted.

The link below is for my Roasted Squash Seed recipe. It is easy and quick and the seeds can be seasoned to fit any craving: sweet, salty, spicy, etc.

  21. we love to buy unpacked food on local markets. here in morocco they are open till late evening.

until now we are able to ask 'how much' in arabic (bschæl), ask for some fruits (oranges = brzochal, pommegranates = romæn, and eggs = baid) and order two coffee (schusch cahua). they are always delighted and help us to with the pronunciation.
