The Principality of Sealand is an unrecognised micronation on an offshore platform in the North Sea.
A sea fort built some 11 km off the English coast during WW2, it briefly housed pirate radio stations before being seized in 1967 by Roy Bates, who declared it independent.

For tax purposes, I am a citizen of #Sealand. I’ve got the membership card and everything.
My “taxes” paid to Sealand are used to clean up the oceans, which is better than my other country’s taxes being used to bomb the Middle East and pay the elongated muskrat.

But this has been a weekend that included an 80th birthday party during which I got to impart the lore of #Sealand, a quiet drink with friends in which we plotted our next skiing trip, and a string quintet playing in the forever unfinished ducal chapel of our local palace — plus a couple of bike rides.

Sealand is the smallest country in the world, and it has only twenty-seven people living there. It is located on an old platform from World War II in the North Sea. Sealand calls itself a micronation, meaning it is a self-proclaimed country.
Even though it is very small, Sealand has a special status. If you want to visit Sealand, you have to get a visa, which makes it even more interesting and mysterious.

Die #Mikronation Fürstentum Sealand verkauft (allerdings nur dort) gültige Adelstitel und man kann sich auch Personaldokumente ausstellen lassen - allerdings wird #Sealand die Anerkennung als Staat international verweigert.

Heute Abend war umjubelte Uraufführung von RADIOLAND in der Neuköllner Oper.
Ein etwas trashiger, sehr unterhaltsamer Abend mit viel Musik zwischen Klamauk und großer Sehnsucht nach Freiheit.
Vor der Küste Englands hat sich auf einer ehemaligen Flak-Plattform ein Piratensender angesiedelt. Später wurde hier die Mikronation Sealand gegründet. Den gibt es übrigens heute noch.

@clacke There's a reason #PeterThiel bought land in NZ - you don't even need to be a resident - and every other rich f%^$r who wants a bolthole if the revolution comes is doing it too. We are #Sealand! It's even in the name! If you read up about property prices in the bigger cities in NZ (where most of the kiwi #Enspiral folks are), they are some of highest in the world relative to incomes. Besides only some of the #Enspiral folks live there these days, it's a multinational cooperation.
