There was almost a seagull disaster today where I live when the bird spotted some food in a busy street and tried to land to carry it away. Fortunately, a driver stopped short and honked at it, scaring it away before it could be hurt.
This has not always been the case, and I've seen cruel drivers go straight for seagulls and pigeons so they could hit them. I still remember several years ago when some godawful person left a seagull dragging itself around in the street with a broken leg and shattered wing. It died before it could receive medical attention or at least be humanely put to sleep 🤬 🤬 🤬 A woman I worked with put it in a cardboard box, took it home, and buried it in a shady spot in her garden.

While we're on the subject of baby birds, check out this cutie of a seagull. I'm going to say that this one is entering juvenile status, as it has lost its floofy look and the feathers are smoothing down, but it's still tan with brown spots, and the beak is dark. 🤎 🤍 🤎 🪶

Two’s Company at the beach
Moments before yesterday’s photo of a beach inspector there were two seagulls.
I was watching them as I walked down Garrylucas Beach and neither moved so I have a couple of shots of them with dramatic waves thundering behind them. They seemed to be not disturbed by the wall of water beyond.
I on the other hand kept an eye on the incoming tide, but I didn’t stay long. It was freezing.
