Nebenbei interessant, dass Seafile immer noch recht einsam mit dem Delta Sync (oder Block Sync - also dass nicht ganze Dateien, sondern nur geänderte Blöcke übertragen werden) unterwegs zu sein scheint bei den File-Lösungen.

Auch wenn das die Wikipedia-Seite "Comparison of file synchronization software" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_synchronization_software) nicht angehakt hat. Obwohl es neben den verschlüsselten Bibliotheken eigentlich seit jeher das Argument für Seafile war.

So, Seafile von v10 lokal installiert auf v13 mit Docker gebracht. Dabei gemerkt, dass sich einiges getan hat. Es gibt inzwischen (doch mal) aktuelle Android Apps und der Linux-Client kommt als AppImage (was die reguläre letzt Version mal hätte sagen können).

Ansonsten die kleinste Hetzner Storage Box mit 1 TB für 3,80 geholt und die Borgs arbeiten lassen. Knapp 45 Minuten für (quasi) Vollbackup von 110 GB (bzw. gepackt 88 GB) ist ok. Sollte reichen.

Is there some people around using Seafile or being able to speak about it compared to Nextcloud ?
In the context of a small video games studio, sharing art files mainly, we have a lot of troubles with Nextcloud and are looking for an easy to use tool for non-tech people.

So pros and cons of Seafile are welcome. Feedback from actual users with their habits too

und das alles lokal mit dem mobilen Server ohne Internet 😉

8 Notebooks mit linux entsprechend eingerichtet, jetzt fehlen nur noch 5, dann kann der Unterricht digital starten 👍

Worked on data & backups today — Seafile on my Raspberry Pi still a bit buggy but usable. Took a break at a café, listened to a podcast ☕, then stopped by Shoprite before heading back to the hostel.

From Laundry to Linux: Two Productive Days in Lusaka

Yesterday (April 30) and today (May 1), I spent some time doing laundry while also setting up my Raspberry Pi with Umbrel OS. I installed the software I need and started backing up my data today, deciding to go with Seafile for it.

I worked on all of this at the hostel, then took a walk to the university and continued in the library. Later, I went to a burger place and enjoyed a Friday deal.

Grundsätzlich habe ich jetzt erstmal alles in Seafile.
Nextcloud ist leer und OpenCloud habe ich abgeschaltet und werde es wohl demnächst auch löschen.

Größte Auffälligkeit: Im Gegensatz zu OpenCloud und Nextcloud gab es nicht einen einzigen Sync-Konflikt beim hochladen (so, wie ich es auch erwarten würde).
Dazu ist das ganze noch deutlich performanter als Nextcloud. Im Grunde ist die Plattenperformance mein Limit.

I reinstalled my Seafile instance for the 999th time, and this time I have added a USB drive logo for it. It seems familiar to me. In the past, I loved using physical USB drives. Now, this will be a familiar, relatable, and nostalgic way to keep my files.

:cannabis: Nicht Nextcloud selbst war das Problem, sondern das gesamte System aus den Abhängigkeiten dahinter. Gemeint ist also der gesamte Unterbau. Für einen Raspberry Pi 3+ war das für eine Dateicloud irgendwann schlichtweg zu viel. Wir haben uns OpenCloud angeschaut und haben den Anbieter gewechselt.

Ja, da gebe ich Dir recht, aber wer ein Smartphone nutzt, hat ja meistens auch gleich eine Cloud aktiviert (Drive oder iCloud). Ich selber nutze #seafile zum synchronisieren der Datei.

Hey #Linux folks, I'm having trouble deciding between #OpenCloud and #Seafile for our #HomeServer. It's a pretty beefy system so the overhead of each shouldn't be too much of a determining factor. I have 2 10tb hard drives that are raid1 and I have docker installed. Oh, and I installed Ubuntu Server because I'm comfortable with Ubuntu already.

My main goal is to make it easy to share and distribute files and store backups and media. I plan on adding #JellyFin at a later date for streaming.

One of the differences I noticed is that each one uses a different dbms. Not a big deal I don't think.

Thanks for any input.

Why I really want #Seafile to work for me

• A lot of users report that Seafile sync is significantly faster than #Nextcloud, especially for large libraries.
• I genuinely like Seafile’s extended properties (metadata) feature — it feels more structured and usable compared to Nextcloud.
• Unlike #PaperlessNGX / #Papra, I can directly edit Office files, which makes it more than just a document archive.

I’m really hoping this setup works out, because on paper it checks all the right boxes for my workflow.

I spun up Seafile last night to replace my bloated Nextcloud setup (which I hadn't really used beyond WebDAV for Obsidian notes & Floccus bookmark syncing).

Documentation was definitely lacking. It didn't help that Google took me to their obsolete v11 instructions instead of the current v13, and I dumped an hour or two into fighting the jank around that.

Seafile seems much less bloated.

Though I wonder if I should worry that it's developed in China?

Moin Marcel, nutze #Yunohost auf VServer bei Strato und #Umbrel als Home-Server in den eigenen vier Wänden über #wireguad um von außen Zugang zu bekommen. Der VServer mit #Yunohost wird mir einfach zu viel angegriffen, laut #fail2ban Protokoll, siehe Bild. Das war die Motivation #umbrel zu nutzen und dort meine privaten Daten zu speichern und mit #seafile zu synchronisieren. Das klappt prima👍

Thinking about migrating this devices to #guix so I have a #garudalinux (#archlinux based) and I want to migrate to #guix, problem is I need a client called #seafile and right now it doesn't exist for #guix. Its what I use to sync almost everything.
