Grundsätzlich habe ich jetzt erstmal alles in Seafile.
Nextcloud ist leer und OpenCloud habe ich abgeschaltet und werde es wohl demnächst auch löschen.

Größte Auffälligkeit: Im Gegensatz zu OpenCloud und Nextcloud gab es nicht einen einzigen Sync-Konflikt beim hochladen (so, wie ich es auch erwarten würde).
Dazu ist das ganze noch deutlich performanter als Nextcloud. Im Grunde ist die Plattenperformance mein Limit.

:cannabis: Nicht Nextcloud selbst war das Problem, sondern das gesamte System aus den Abhängigkeiten dahinter. Gemeint ist also der gesamte Unterbau. Für einen Raspberry Pi 3+ war das für eine Dateicloud irgendwann schlichtweg zu viel. Wir haben uns OpenCloud angeschaut und haben den Anbieter gewechselt.

Ja, da gebe ich Dir recht, aber wer ein Smartphone nutzt, hat ja meistens auch gleich eine Cloud aktiviert (Drive oder iCloud). Ich selber nutze #seafile zum synchronisieren der Datei.

Hey #Linux folks, I'm having trouble deciding between #OpenCloud and #Seafile for our #HomeServer. It's a pretty beefy system so the overhead of each shouldn't be too much of a determining factor. I have 2 10tb hard drives that are raid1 and I have docker installed. Oh, and I installed Ubuntu Server because I'm comfortable with Ubuntu already.

My main goal is to make it easy to share and distribute files and store backups and media. I plan on adding #JellyFin at a later date for streaming.

One of the differences I noticed is that each one uses a different dbms. Not a big deal I don't think.

Thanks for any input.

Сегодня полдня воевала с отвалами Seafile на Raspberry Pi 5. Были постоянные 502 ошибки, перезапуски и обрывы соединений.
​Вскрытие показало, что MariaDB решила поиграть в современные технологии и включила io_uring по умолчанию. Но ядро малинки супер-возложило на это (EPERM). В итоге пёр бесконечный цикл падений и приветственное Connection refused в логах самого Seafile.
​Принудительно отключаэила native-aio в конфиге базы и выдала ей чуть больше памяти (innodb_buffer_pool_size=512M), благо на пятерке ресурсов хватает. Пока нормально, рулим дальше.

Why I really want #Seafile to work for me

• A lot of users report that Seafile sync is significantly faster than #Nextcloud, especially for large libraries.
• I genuinely like Seafile’s extended properties (metadata) feature — it feels more structured and usable compared to Nextcloud.
• Unlike #PaperlessNGX / #Papra, I can directly edit Office files, which makes it more than just a document archive.

I’m really hoping this setup works out, because on paper it checks all the right boxes for my workflow.

I spun up Seafile last night to replace my bloated Nextcloud setup (which I hadn't really used beyond WebDAV for Obsidian notes & Floccus bookmark syncing).

Documentation was definitely lacking. It didn't help that Google took me to their obsolete v11 instructions instead of the current v13, and I dumped an hour or two into fighting the jank around that.

Seafile seems much less bloated.

Though I wonder if I should worry that it's developed in China?

Moin Marcel, nutze #Yunohost auf VServer bei Strato und #Umbrel als Home-Server in den eigenen vier Wänden über #wireguad um von außen Zugang zu bekommen. Der VServer mit #Yunohost wird mir einfach zu viel angegriffen, laut #fail2ban Protokoll, siehe Bild. Das war die Motivation #umbrel zu nutzen und dort meine privaten Daten zu speichern und mit #seafile zu synchronisieren. Das klappt prima👍

A lot of the dislike for #Seafile seems to focus on its opaque server-side directory structure. But that’s just application-managed storage—if you want proper backups, you back up the entire Seafile instance, same as Paperless-ngx with its numeric filenames. Personally, I just want a responsive file-sharing app that’s light on resources and easy to maintain. That’s not how I’d describe #Nextcloud.

I think I'm going to switch from NextCloud to Seafile.

I only need a Dropbox replacement. Not all of the stuff Nextcloud has.

And also, Nextcloud randomly likes to trigger Pangolin + CrowdSec to lock me out of my data.

For self hosting, several things are frequently mentioned, NextCloud being one of the products frequently talked about. Seafile, however, seem to be almost a "well kept secret"

Are there reasons that NC is more a thing and SF is? Any reasons I should not opt for SF over NC?

Sure, I get that NC is more than SF is, but for what most appear to use NC for, SF seems to be a much more lightweight, simple option. It was a lot easier to set up, the app is neat & simple, things seem to work quite fast.

Any issues one should be aware of that makes this less of a "good choice"?

Derzeit steht bei #umbrel mein erstes Upgrade an (siehe Foto), das wird spannend für mich, ob dann noch alles läuft.😉

Weiterhin klappt nach meinem Umzug der Fernzugriff über #wireguard an der Fritz!Box nicht mehr, weil mein Provider #deutscheglasfaser da irgendwie herumzickt. I like Seafile, it's simple. It does one thing well, which is make it easy to share files between different machines. It reminds me of Google Drive before they junked it up.

And if you run your own Seafile server on your LAN, this is totally secure, without your data ever having to leave your control at all.

It's weird that that has become a luxury, but such is 21st century corporate-platform computing.

Anyway, none of that with Seafile running on your own LAN. I run it on my household file server, with clients on my phone and my workstation.

For several years, this has been my go-to solution for transferring photos and note files from my phone to my workstation, where I edit my logs.

Как минимум: • доступ к файлам с любого устройства; • автоматическая синхронизация файлов и резервное копирование; • расшаривание файлов; • совместная работа с документами. Сегодня такое «локальное облако» можно поднять на собственном сервере или VPS в качестве альтернативы корпоративным экосистемам типа Apple, Google и «Яндекс».

Dafür sind die 10GB Postfachquota fast voll. Da werd ich demnächst wohl mal ein Mailarchiv in den Cloudspeicher stellen…
