Inspired by the recent #sdsl2024 workshop I have investigated sharing of spatial datasets between #rstats and #python as feather files
Some kinks remain to be ironed out, but so far the results look very promising - you essentially get both a sf object AND a geopandas dataframe for the price of one. Plus the compression is very efficient (file size is one half of a rds file, and one third of a geopackage)
Very interesting for developing multi-language data packages

@underdarkGIS if you prefer working directly in #Python, have a look at the #MovingPandas example notebook at https://movingpandas.github.io/movingpandas-website/1-tutorials/10-smoothing-trajectories.html

New release 🎉
#Trajectools 2.3 brings trajectory generalization, cleaning, and smoothing algorithms to #QGIS
Inspired by #SDSL2024, I've written up the first Trajectools tutorial on #trajectory data preprocessing

Good morning Prague. Ready for #SDSL2024 to begin.
Yesterday's trip to Prague was luckily uneventful after our train left Vienna with a one hour delay due to the flood situation

Day ten: made it to Prague! Today traveling was mostly by train, not because of the weather (good) or uninteresting landscapes (haven't tried), but because my achilles heel injury (classic) starts to annoy, and there seems to be some correlation with the cycling. Also needed to wash cloths before meeting other humans, and dry the soaking wet camping gear. Look forward to meet with @robinlovelace , @martinfleis, @loreabad6 and the rest of the gang tonight at the #sdsl2024 icebreaker!

#sdsl2024 stands for https://spatial-data-science.github.io/2024/ ; the whole trip was planned using Komoot (premium) - they keep amazing me with the routes they find for your travel mode, while still getting you from A to B.

Started my 10-day bike trip to Prag today, for #sdsl2024. Started flat. Long stretches over a former tram way, bike path only, trees & landscape, wonderful and familiar. I know I will hate myself for getting this solid bike and bringing all that luggage when the hills start tomorrow.
