  1. Hello masto,

  2. Getting the #Precursors in #ScumandVillany to be darker and weirder. Taking inspiration from The Expanse, Murderbot and Alien, where the Precursor technology is a threat, even if corporations really want to take advantage of it.

Here's some examples, I'll add more later on:

  3. It does sort of beg the question of what system would I like to run Phantasy Star in? Weirdly enough, I think I could start with a base of Scum and Villainy and be pretty well on my way.

It's a pretty decent interpretation of FITD. It already has a spaceship for you to be traveling around on. The selection of character playbooks is not bad and includes something you will definitely need for the setting, a Mechanic.

You're also probably going to want a Mystic. And you might even want to allow for a couple of variations of that playbook.

I think that might be a pretty good place to start. Shockingly. The only problem remaining is finding a really good Phantasy Star source book for background, and I'll bet there are probably a dozen wikis

  4. What's a good sci-fi #ttrpg system to run a short-medium campaign for a new DM? I ran one D&D module last year and fancy having another go at something different, lasting a few weeks to a few months. I've already got some #Starfinder books, but the space wizards & space gods theme doesn't really appeal - I prefer tech over magic in sci-fi. I'd like something with a few modules I can pick from, and scope to try varying things myself. Someone recommended #ScumAndVillany to me

  5. I've read the #Traveller Core Rulebook from 2008 and found it to be very uninspiring and generic.

Though in fairness, the game is over 40 years old, and I guess everything it had that was new and unique for a space setting has also been copied by #StarsWithoutNumber #ScumAndVillany and #Coriolis

  6. @NarrativeEscapes There's been a whole genre emerging that I generally call Space Adventure or "Scoundrels with a Spaceship".

    There's #Traveller , #ScumAndVillany , #StarsWithoutNumber , and #Coriolis , and of course every #StarWars RPG.

It probably goes all back to Han Solo, with Mandalorian and Andor picking up what's already a long running tradition.

  7. My streak of not buying a #ttrpg has ended. Lasted 4 whole days in 2023. That said this one was long overdue! #ScumandVillany

  8. I know many folks are down on AI generated stuff these days, but I sort of wish I could just ask it to combine #CY_BORG, #Spelljammer, and #ScumandVillany together into the next game I want to learn and run!

  9. CW: Deal on FITD stuff. (I am not getting a kickback!)

If anyone has wanted to get into #FITD games like #bladesinthedark, #scumandvillany, or #bandofblades, there is a really good deal on BundleofHolding right now to get a huge selection of FITD stuff. I might have just purchased Blades for the 5th time to get all the extra FITD games that I hadn't had a chance to purchase!
