The competence of those who wish to operate a car are subject to the licensure regulation by their state. Older drivers are additionally subject to medical scrutiny, by a doctor whose privilege to practice medicine is, itself, regulated by that state. The point is, just to be able to operate something as mundane as a car, the person must submit to a hierarchy of independent scrutineers whose conduct is governed by a hierarchy of regulations and laws. And these control points exist for very obvious and sensible reasons.
But such reasonable #regulation of and independent #scrutiny of #competence is utterly absent, when it comes to #gun ownership and #WhiteHouse occupancy.

Two prisoners who are among the 37 federal inmates whose death sentences were commuted last month by President Joe Biden

— have taken an unusual stance:They're refusing to sign paperwork accepting his clemency action.

seeking an injunction to block having their death sentences commuted to life in prison without parole.The men believe that having their sentences commuted would put them at a legal disadvantage
as they seek to appeal their cases based on claims of innocence.The courts look at death penalty appeals very closely in a legal process known as #heightened #scrutiny,
in which courts should examine death penalty cases for errors because of the life and death consequences of the sentence.The process doesn't necessarily lead to a greater likelihood of success, but Agofsky suggested he doesn’t want to lose that additional scrutiny.

So I decided to replace my 8 TB IronWolf, which had some SMART errors (spotted by Scrutiny), with a new 20 TB IronWolf Pro (5-year warranty). This was my only purchase during Black Friday.
