As of September 24, 2025 #Screwworm has been detected within 70 miles of the #US #Mexico #Border. This is very bad news since the range of #NWS is around 120 miles during their 21 day lifespan, meaning they could fly across the closed to livestock border anytime in the next couple weeks, or less if it's windy. "AUSTIN — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts in South Texas to monitor for animals affected by New World Screwworm (NWS) after a recent detection in Mexico... the maggots burrow or screw into flesh with sharp mouth hooks.
