Delve into the unsettling brilliance of Teinosuke Kinugasa's 1926 silent film masterpiece, "A Page of Madness" (Kurutta Ippêji, 70 minutes). Kinugasa, a former kabuki female impersonator, employs a disorienting array of avant-garde and Expressionist techniques, from rapid montage and distorted perspectives to dreamlike sequences and subjective camera angles, to plunge the audience directly into the characters' inner turmoil.
