The same CF Booth who almost cost Rotherham United to be fined for not playing football matches in their home town after the Millmoor football ground was snatched from under them?

What saddens me the most is that the family are probably going to come out of this ok whilst 114 people are now redundant. Ken Booth's kids did not care for the business and none of them seemed interested in it.

  7. Cape Clear’s Car Graveyard

What happens to old cars is one of the harsh realities of island life that doesn’t make it into the tourist brochures.

Getting a dead vehicle off Cape Clear isn’t as simple as calling a scrap dealer as everything has to go by ferry, which makes the economics of removal pretty grim for islanders already dealing with the higher costs of island living. It’s a stark reminder that even in Ireland’s most picturesque corners, people have to deal with the mundane realities of modern life, including what to do with that blue van that’s given up the ghost and will never make another trip to the mainland.

Cape Clear Island, located about 13 kilometres off the coast of West Cork, has a permanent population of around 120 people and faces unique challenges with waste disposal due to its remote location. All waste, including scrap vehicles, must be transported by ferry to the mainland, making disposal expensive and logistically complex. The island’s small size (just 6.5 square kilometers) means that space for storing unusable vehicles is extremely limited, leading to accumulations like the one shown in this photograph. Irish islands have lobbied for government assistance with waste disposal costs, as the expense of transporting bulky items like cars can be prohibitive for island communities with limited resources.

  11. Here's a likely #YoungTimer internet find, which could be titled

    "Automobile Still Life"

And it also serves very well for a #NameThatCarChallenge.

(Please post any guesses or hints with a content warning, so that others can do their own guesses, too. Thanks!)

  12. This weekend the Cloudflare Lisbon office hosted a 24h hackathon organized by high-schoolers called Scrapyard.

    scrapyard.pt

A couple of us volunteers thought it would be nice to also bring a hobby project to work on, so I brought one of my small CRTs that was suffering from significant jitter with 60Hz inputs (e.g. PAL60).

It wasn't as straightforward as replacing the main filter capacitor, but I got it working in the end. 😅

  15. This week's #FolkloreThursday tale is called "Scrapyard Shangri-La" 🌳🚗

It is a #story of rusty #oldtimers left in the forest wilderness of Sweden.

This was once a #scrapyard owned by two brothers, who lived in a small house nearby. When most of Europe switched to right-hand drive in 1967, cars were brought here by the hundreds.

The business closed in the 1980s. The #cargraveyard was originally three times the size of what you can see today, but still hundreds of #abandoned cars remain.

  17. After living in rural #Norfolk for over 6 years, I learnt there was a hidden #abandoned #ScrapYard only 3 miles from my house, in overgrown #woodland
This old bus was the highlight for me. I visited loads Jan to March, 2022 and took images and videos some of which made it onto my album art, music video and featured in my live concert film footage.
I plan to return in early 2023 and see what state things are in 1 year later
