Did you know Africa was colonized by the European states in the late 1800’s? Europe was in the throes of the #IndustrialRevolution and needed raw materials. As much of the cause of WWI as anything else.

I can't help but suspect that most Brits who are "proud" of the #BritishEmpire falsely believe that Africa was subjugated and partitioned way back in the 17th/18th centuries, in the "bad old days" of the slave trade.
In fact, it began only 30 years before WW1, and we were only stopped by having been bankrupted by that and WW2.
Such ignorance might help explain why the Right's complaint of "the woke are trying to make us ashamed of our history" is able to land.
