The five-day “Mini” Backpack is something we do with our 7th and 8th-grade Scouts every two years. This year, we had an eleventh-hour destination change from #colorado’s Flat Tops Wilderness to the much less fire-hazardous West Elks Wilderness near Durango.
Day 1: Trailhead to Middle Creek along the Lowline. Lots of cows and a forest fire scar. Water scarcity and everyone getting used to heavy backpacks and steep climbs. Crew working to come together.

I'm the records keeper for my #ScoutsBSA troop (50ish youth) and keeping up with rank advancement has been the devil. They rank up but don't tell me/show me their book so we don't know they need X.
3 weeks ago it hit me, I can modify the paper sign-in sheet to list their current rank and since then, we've had probably 8 lads discover they haven't told me about their progression.
The best was the kid who went from nothing to First Class (4 ranks)

7 days of camping at BSA Summer Camp in eastern Wisconsin is done. I again lead the troop for the week. 17 people (including adults) is a lot to manage but it was good. We camped early this year and the weather was good. I wish I could rest but my wife and daughter are headed to Girl Scout Adventure Camp in SW Michigan tomorrow!
