On April 1, 1917: #ScottJoplin, American ragtime #composer (The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag), died at 48.

"The Entertainer" is a 1902 #classicPianoRag written by #ScottJoplin. It was sold first as sheet music by #JohnStarkAndSon of #SaintLouisMissouri, and in the 1910s as #pianoRolls that would play on #playerPianos. The first recording was by #blues and #ragtime musicians "the #BlueBoys" in 1928, played on #mandolin and #guitar. As one of the classics of the ragtime genre, it returned to international prominence as part of the style revival in the 1970s.

I was watching the Gardiner Brothers dancing to The Entertainer by Scott Joplin with the sound turned off, and I realized that they were so clear in interpreting the song with their movements that I could tell where they were in the song, and I could hear the music in my head and match it up
