'The Haunted Chateau Of Grez-sur-Loing' by #Scottish artist David Gauld. Over the years this picturesque village in northern #France attracted a bewildering number of artists. There seems no certain ghost story about the chateau - I think it just looked haunted!

"Cauld blaws the wind frae east to west, The drift is driving sairly; Sae loud and shrill's I hear the blast I'm sure it's winter fairly." - Robert Burns This painting by Joseph Farquharson is called 'Cauld Blaws The Wind From East To West' in reference to the poem #BookWormSat #ScottishArt #poetry

Celebration of a decade of #FireStationCreative in #Dunfermline tonight.
20+ artists' studios, a cafe/bar, 125 visual arts exhibitions, over 1000 musical performances over the decade.
Too often, projects fall into excess focus on capital outlay for flashy redesigns and then fail to sustain. By contrast, the Fire Station, achieving a strong reconstruction through local initiative and effort, has thrived.

As the caption suggests, the subject of this 1848 picture does call to mind the obsession of some men of that era with "fallen women", but I revel in the sheer visual pleasure occasioned by this work from an important Scottish artist.

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham CBE (1912 – 2004) was one of the foremost Scottish abstract artists.
Through the course of her life her work generally lay on the divide between abstract and representational, typically drawing on inspirations from landscape. From as early as the age of eight she had been creating abstract shapes with coloured chalks.
This painting is a great example of her work. I particularly love the apparent simplicity of brush strokes and colours.

The changing groupings of artists over time are an example of networks in action. I think graphing these is a good example of the possibilities of using #wikidata to explore affinities.
This diagram provides a view of the associative network of artists to societies. It has been simplified to focus on those artists with #wikipedia articles and who were members of more than one society: without that filter, the diagram becomes unreadable.

@TheWeeOwl #ScottishArt #Painting #CreativeToots I received my hand drawn art late last week and am thrilled with it! When I saw it on Mastadon I thought it would look perfect on one of my Tolkien shelves in my library. I think it fits right in…

A cold but windfree walk along the coast at Broughty Ferry yesterday. Lots of new public art but the names of the artist/s not up yet so not sure who these dolpins are by. They do look a bit like sausages in this photo...

Absolutely over the (sunset) moon to have sold these 4 original works today, to a Scottish collector.
I love painting sunsets and it gives me an excuse to paint some more.
