  1. 🚂 #Railway veteran Alan Newman, 79, returned to the footplate of the historic Flying #Scotsman in #Birmingham, 40 years after driving it on London-Stratford specials in the 1980s. Alan, a Duty Control Manager at Chiltern Railways, spent Friday 20 February assisting visitors at Birmingham Moor Street as families flocked to see the locomotive. Having worked in rail since 1962, his roles have included train driver, instructor, station manager and operational manager. Flying Scotsman was on display at the station for three days, operated by #Vintage #Trains.

    Mr Buchan’s novel, The Thirty-Nine Steps, published in 1915, was adapted into a film by Hitchcock 20 years later. The story was noted by Bond creator Ian Fleming through the similarities between the spy and Buchan’s character Richard Hannay, as well as the use of the spy thriller “chase” to escape his enemies.

    🥥 I thought your toot was asking, "Is it #Linux time?" Dan.
    I'm neither a #Scotsman, a coin-op, nor someone who knows what a "furry plumber" is.
    What I AM is an extremely shy 74-year-old who's experiencing mild cognitive issues, has a Linux question, wants to test the theory that the #Fediverse is all-knowing, and uses the #OxfordComma.
    I'm attempting to backup a drive to a directory on a larger drive using either #dd, #rsync, or some better solution. 🥥

  12. There is, inevitably, a fair few column inches in the papers today anent ongoing internal #SNP difficulties. The #Scotsman in particular has quite a lot of words spread over a number of pages, including a lot of interest in Kevin Pringle’s appointment as Head of Communications (a great move IMO).

    One of the articles is a gem and includes the following two statements separated by 2 or 3 columns. You have to laugh!
