  2. A delicious lunch at Number 12 in #Helmsley followed by a #scone later in #Scarborough. Misty all day but no rain so no complaints.

  7. “But I can give you any of these for free,” gesturing to the other #baked goods. “How many do you want? Would you like a #chocolate #croissant? A #lemon #scone? What about #cookies? A #doughnut?”

“Free?” I questioned. “I should pay for something.”

“Why? I’m glad to give you these. And I’ll see you again, soon.”

I left with a bag abrim with #delicious, housemade treats and a #smile on my face — all free!

  11. I chickened out of a group walk this morning because of the wet weather forecast. It brightened up in the afternoon so I walked across to Cragside. Quite a change from a couple of weeks ago when they were turning people away, hardly anyone was there. I tried the scone of the month, savory cheese and marmite! I loved it but I expect it will divide opinion.

  12. Once again, the ⓥ scones are in the oven. The house smells soooo good. 🥰😋 Lemon Rosemary scones with Cranberries this time.

  13. I took a trip to Cragside and tried out the National Trust's new scone of the month. It was a nice walk with autumn colours and the calm day giving clear reflections in Tumbledon lake. The scone of the month is "red dragon", served with onion marmalade and grated mature cheddar. Personally I'd have classed the " onion marmalade" as a chutney, but pedantry aside, it really was delicious.

For anyone better at baking than I am they publish a recipe.

On this day in 1296, King Edward I of England invades Scotland and removes the coronation stone of Scone. #Scone

On this day in 1940, Heinrich Himmler orders establishment of Auschwitz Concentration Camp. #Auschwitz

On this day in 2005, the Airbus A380, double-deck airliner and world's largest commercial jet, has its maiden test flight.

  15. Can I just, once and for all, conclusively settle the best #scone debate?
The 100% best order in which to put the fillings in a scone is.
    - cream first, AND
    - cream second.
You can make things even better by putting cream on the top, leaving the only possible improvement as.... removing at least one half of the scone.

  16. This morning, from Perth, Scotland I visited the nearby beautiful Scone Palace and its even more spectacular palace gardens. Here’s my less spectacular journal entry about it: journeys.klebanoff.com/2024/09

  17. Sure the CrowdStrike outage created numerous problems, but it also brought us this neat story about scones, moths, and signs!

  18. @seawall crystalised ginger and dried apricots are my go to #scone recipe.

  19. 966 years ago today. Malcolm Canmore was crowned King Malcolm III of Scotland at Scone - on the Stone of Scone - on 25 April 1058. He was the first king of the House of Dunkeld that would go on to rule Scotland for the next 232 years. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/usb

  20. Previous boost also for tourists. Let’s be careful out there… #scone

  21. I was going to show you this very delicious savoury scone at Tea, Inc. in Devizes ... but ... I ate it before I had a chance to photograph it.

  22. #ClottedCream Attempts 1, 2 and 3 were from #rawmilk from the #dairy down the street. Result: Weak and thin

Attempt 4 is from a pint of raw heavy #cream from a different dairy about 20min away. The cream itself was already thick to the point of needing to be scooped out

The near-pint of result is incredibly thick, yellow and buttery and looks just like what we got at #HighTea in #UK

Last week I think I mastered a #scone. Getting close to production quality!

  23. Another batch #rawmilk into the #sousvide to make #clottedcream.

And this time Imma try a different #scone recipe because I didn't really like the Buckingham recipe. Maybe it was the real buttermilk (side product of the cream process) or maybe it was the baking soda. A bitterish taste.

I wanted to make #strawberry #jam as well but those seem to be going out of season now. I guess jarred jam will be...ok.

  24. Just seen today’s #GoogleDoodle, and that’s it, I’m going to have to get some #scones in at our next supermarket shop. Probably cherry flavoured scones, eaten with Morello cherry preserve. And Cornish clotted dream. Scottish me eats scones the Cornish way, cream on top. My #Somerset husband with a dad from #Cornwall eats them #Devon style, jam on top. Traiter haha! But yes, yum. #SweetTreats #Scone #BritishFood #Jam #ClottedCream #Scotland

  25. First some #Chips and then a nice #Scone with #ClottedCream and #Jam. And of course the one and only way to have a scone, the #Devon way. Clotted cream first and the jam on top.
