  1. Oook‼️ ‼️

One for #GNUTerryPratchett fans who also have a fondness for our Orangutan cousins over the years I have come across several things in #Discworld books that you would initially think of being from pTerry's fantasy imagination but turned out to be references to weird #RoundWorld realities he picked up in his wide ranging reading research but I am not sure if some of his fans in the science community named the librarian Long Call after his death or if it was named before & it made it into the Long Earth series & we only now are beginning to understand the recursive complexities in the language of a fellow ape & he extrapolated it early. Anyway some in the above Venn diagram of interests might enjoy the #SciShow linked below.

  2. "This is not the time for lazy science."

Many thanks to Evie Unraveling for making this video about the science, history, and technology of knitting. If you didn't see the video SciShow knitting video, it is full of misinformation, lazy science, and misogyny. I love SciShow, but that was irresponsible. As a female scientist and crocheter, this correction video by Evie was very affirming.

The video was removed from SciShow's YouTube page after the backlash and Hank Green has posted an apology on his own Tiktok.

  3. Very cool! Tie-in between SciShow and Alexis Dahl:

It's so fascinating that the purity of the copper was the downfall behind the tools (makes sense considering that other cultures went with bronze and not copper tools - bronze being an alloy)...makes sense given that copper is known for ductility rather than particularly notable strength.

  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdpSfrD3Nzs&pp=ygURaGFuayBncmVlbiBhdXRpc20%3D

    In which
#SciShow's Hank Green addresses, dissects, analyzes, and utterly shreds and destroys #RFKBatshit's HHS release about #autism that the Mango Mussolini so derangedly bloviated about and blamed (completely idiotically) on #Tylenol in an attempt to distract attention from, all together now, The Epstein Files.

    tl,dr: The
ENTIRE release is based upon ONE SINGLE dataset that appears to show a recent increase in autism spectrum diagnoses if you look at an artificially narrow period of time and intentionally misinterpret and misrepresent the data.

    I mean, we
all already knew it was bullshit. But this is chapter and verse on exactly how and why it is bullshit.

  9. The knitting science video we all deserve (after Hank Green's disastrous attempt - which they never came out with a formal apology for, just stuck a comment under the video about it)

  10. Welp, I logged back onto Mastodon this PM to yell about SciShow's endometriosis episode:

    1. The tissue involved is ***uterine-like***, not uterine tissue itself. The title of the episode ("You don't need a uterus to get a uterine disease") is misleading at best. :yell:

    2. Too much talk about the retrograde menstruation theory (which they hinted as being contested; the endo groups I lurk in view the theory as outdated), not enough about the genetic causes. :yell:

  11. Oh my. I don't watch #SciShow, but based on the number of #Youtube reaction videos to their #knitting one that the algorithm handed me, I think I'd better not.

    And I hope they don't touch #lace .

  12. Erm, pretty sure SciShow made a slight unit error in their latest video 😅

And by slight, we mean 1000 times too much 😅

  17. SchiShow writers must have known exactly what they were doing here with this line of dialogue 😏🤭

Who wouldn't like the idea of having a little bit of the Bard (or any other great person from history) inside of them?

  18. You know you've watched too many SciShow and PBS Eons videos when you realised that "homo heidelbergensis" has become a term in your mind 😅
