One of my friends found this 1982 Volkswagen Scirocco (GL?) car in a house clearance or something and now has it. He’s trying to fix it up to make it usable (who knows how long that’ll take, lol).
Anyways, I hadn’t seen it before today so I went with a few other friends to take a look, it’s pretty cool, haha Love how vintage it really is
It’ll take a while to fix, but he’s slowly doing it bit by bit.
I’m pretty sure the electrics work, but there are holes all over 😭

I'm sure I've seen this #VW #Scirocco round this way - this wouldn't be a surprise as JayEmm is local - he is from North #Essex and the video has been made in #Halstead near the border with #Suffolk
I considered getting one myself, but the 2,0 litre petrol isn't as common (I didn't want the diesel as I occasionally drive into ULEZ area), its hard to find one that hasn't been poorly modified or high mileage and there is far less storage/boot space than in the Golf (which it is based on) which is partly why this model was never that popular (and was deleted in 2018)

I was expecting the #Chinese mechanics to just replace the oil pan and gaskets, not haul out the whole entire #EA888 #engine from the #VW #Scirocco and strip and #overhaul every component (like what used to happen more often in #garages here in 1970s/80s). They are using a mix of old skool skills, and modern computerised tools I have not even seen in many Western workshops..

and it was sort of fun because I did not realize that Lamplighter Brewing is where Metric Systems used to be, where I and my then-wife used to take our (okay, her 😆) VW Scirocco for service. Was a great garage.

I absolutely have a weakness for '80s hatchbacks like the #scirocco and slightly later the #Isuzu impulse. Both cars I've had, and they were the best of the reborn affordable #sportscars? They're hard to classify.
I absolutely do not need another project, but should you ever trip over an Impulse, and your feeling particularly evil, drop me a message.

In case you don't already know me, here are two of my weird autos, a 1986 Volkswagen Scirocco GT and a 1959 Hillman Minx Series III.
My everyday car is a much more sensible Jaguar estate car - but even that is quite unusual. I also have a high end race simulator, which is often out action with yet another mysterious IT issue 😄
