The massive habitation dome dominated the terrain. Its white-washed tubular steel frame with hexagonal thermoplastic panels gleamed in the sunlight. Built over a vast geothermal lake, it was the only above-ground structure that generated enough heat to sustain life once the permanent darkness set in. Garrig entered the airlock—a burst of hot, steamy air engulfed him. The smell of moist earth and green plants wafted to his nose.
