  2. Today, I spent the day at the Science Museum in London.

Seeing the history of important discoveries like medicine, the Industrial Revolution, and the steam engine, amongst others, was truly inspiring. While the “anti-education” crowd can be loud, they will never make a contribution to society as significant as the millions of individuals, universities, and communities that have contributed throughout history.

The whole “anti-science” rhetoric is disheartening because those individuals lack the mental capacity to comprehend the countless hours dedicated by many brilliant minds to researching, validating, testing, and producing so many cures and techniques that benefit humanity.

As someone who has spent a significant portion of my life learning STEM subjects, today filled me with a sense of empowerment and inspiration. It was a good day to reflect on the history of science, especially when London was in the news for less than inspiring reasons.

I highly recommend visiting the Science Museum if you’re in and around London.

  3. Do you live in the #UK and want to see the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy? Then when you’re in #London next, pop along to the #ScienceMuseum, where you can see the #Apollo10 #CommandModule. Not enough people know that it’s there, nor that it still holds the record for being the fastest crewed #spacecraft or any #vehicle, for that matter, to date.

  4. Here's a rebuild of a part of #CharlesBabbage's #DifferenceEngineNumberTwo, by the team led by #DononSwade at London's #ScienceMuseum. It implements an adder.

Interestingly, the exhibit includes a foot-operated metal lathe from 1910, likely closely modelled on the type of lathe that Babbage commissioned 70 years earlier. It was capable of achieving tolerances of 0.1mm.
