  1. Front row access to an #Alphorn performance at #schynigeplatte. Beautiful way of welcoming and bidding farewell to visitors coming and going on the Schynige Platte bahn.

  3. At the #SchynigePlatte Alpine garden there are over 650 species of plants native to the Swiss Alps. #Alpengarten

#Edelweiss - a mountain flower that prefers rocky limestone places at elevations around 2000m and above, with a furry protective cover against high-altitude UV radiation. TIL that it's used in funerals in Taiwan (there's a species that's endemic in Taiwan mountains), as white symbolizes mourning and respect 🙇 I also like its symbolism of rugged beauty and nobility 💮

  5. Last day in the #BerneseHighlands - we took the cogwheel ⚙️ Schynige Platte bahn ⚙️ up to #SchynigePlatte. The ride is fairly long (52 minutes one way) but comes with great views (as usual) - get to the train early so you can get good seats for the long ride!

(Btw on the way I saw a sign to #Rotenegg, didn't manage to take a pic but thought it was funny and wanted to make a note for future reference 🥚)

  7. Not so succeeded reflection of Schynige Platte on the left to the Schwarzhorn on the right. Still love the picture.

  9. As predicted by the weather forecast we woke up in a white world at our altitude. The route to First was not doable (for us), so we resorted to a small loop to Oberberghorn. We were lucky enough that the clouds broke every now and then. Light snowfall as well, but much better than rain.

We had lunch back in the restaurant at the same time the weather conditions deteriorated, so we used the best part of the day. Gives us the opportunity as well to watch the World Championships Road Cycling for the women.

  11. We left the house with rain and resigned to the idea the train ride up would be in the clouds. As soon as we started however, the clouds started to disappear and the sun came out.

What a superb ride! Had been 10+ years that I went up to Schynige Platte and was blown away again how beautiful was. We were in the last train up, so hardly anyone rode with us, giving us the space to move from left to right for the best views.

Just before we arrived at the final station, a rainbow welcomed us overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley.

What a treat it was! Even when tomorrow we can't do anything, it has been worthwhile already.

    💯

  13. My wife is walking the Via Berna (viaberna.ch/en/stages) in stages (a long-distance trail from the northwest to the southeast of Canton Bern). She arrived on Schynige Platte last weekend. The next stage is the classic trail "Schynige Platte - Frist".

We have never hiked this trail (which is almost a crime when you live nearby). We made a reservation for the hotel on the summit for end of September, so we can enjoy a nice evening in the mountains and have an early start before the first train arrives from down below.

A description of the trail from Schynige Platte:

Now only the weather must be good end of September, otherwise we "just" have a nice evening in the mountains.
