If schools insist on hanging on to the archaic 20th century habit of making students wear uniforms, maybe they should supply them? Parents could pay a bond at the start of the school year. So when students return their uniform items at the end of it, parents would only have to pay for items that got lost or damaged.

Every Sunday I look back at the preceding week in kpop and pick out a music video or performance that I have particularly liked. This week I have chosen Yoon, J, Rei, and Liz-- Rock U (Orig. KARA).
Normally I am not so keen on chants, but what precedes and follows here is some wonderfully melodic writing from Sweetune, providing a context that makes that chanting quite winning. I love the production, and think all the girls’ voices work well together here; Yoon and J are always favourites of mine. For this stage, the school uniform look echoes without replicating the the KARA stages of long ago.
Where would Kpop be without school uniforms, especially the “Clueless” variant? There’s probably an article, or even a book, to be written on this topic.

So I'm watching the first episode of a show called #MrMidnight Beware of the Monsters. It's a Singaporean series about some blogger highschool kids confronting the supernatural. It's kinda fun so far.
But I'm looking at how the main character is dressed, and I'm like "Okay, that's an interesting style choice, but what do I know about Singaporean teenage fashion." Then I notice that several other kids are wearing the same thing. It's a school uniform.
Khaki pants, black belt, Paisley (kinda) shirt
Is… is that seriously a realistic Singaporean High School uniform?
I'm not criticizing or shaming or anything, my fashion sense begins and ends with jeans and a T-shirt. But wow, that's a wild choice for a school uniform…

... or we could just admit that school uniforms are a pointless hangover from the colonial era and ban making them compulsory. If not get rid of them altogether.

We also keep hearing about how schools need to prepare children for the world of #work. Let's kill two birds with one stone. Jobs that require uniforms provide them for free. To prepare children for the workforce, schools should also provide uniforms for free.

As someone that went to both types of schools--one that requires students to wear uniforms & no dress code, MatPat speaks the truth.
What #MatPat addresses and I didn't realize as a kid is that uniforms give the school a sense of professionalism while hiding the core issues of the education system.
