Lý do là gì? #GiaoDuc #Education #PhuHuynh #Parents #TienTruong #SchoolFees #VietNam

A thought on the VAT on private school fees debate...
It would appear that fees for private healthcare (e.g. Bupa) are also VAT-exempt. The same argument could therefore apply: consumers of private healthcare have already paid tax (notionally NI, but we all know it doesn't work like that) to fund a public service, but have chosen not to use it.
On that basis, why choose to add VAT to private school fees, and not private healthcare? Don't get me wrong - I advocate neither private schools nor private healthcare. I believe that universally available high-quality public services is the morally proper solution.
I don't really understand why we need VAT at all (I'm not an economist) but if we're going to have it I think it should be levied on all goods and services with very few exemptions (for example, essential medical products, water and energy, non-luxury food and school uniforms). That would include private schools and private healthcare. I must be a socialist, unlike Keir Starmer!

It occurs to me that in the game of chicken, whatever life sends charging at you never swerves first.
You should always expect that it's going to be you that has to do the dodging.

I rather doubt the much-quoted "poorer parents" who pay fees for private education will take advantage of such a loophole - it will be the usual tax-minimising multi-millionaires....they can only put their child down for Eton after conception & it is a one-off loophole, assuming it works at all - despite having an overall majority since 2015 the #toriesOut have not unbanned fox-hunting or removed inheritance tax so I doubt once taxed the tax on #schoolFees will ever be lifted

The ending of the #taxbreak for #privateschools is sooo overdue!! I remember this being seen as an issue back to elections in the 80's. It was only really under #TonyBlair that @UKLabour went soft on the issue. There is NO justification for VAT not to be levied on #schoolfees.
