  1. 🇨🇦 Canadian Word of the Day: Pencil Crayon

What do you call a wood-cased colouring instrument? If you're Canadian, you likely say 'pencil crayon.' Most Americans, on the other hand, call them 'colored pencils.' This simple two-word term is a classic piece of Canadian vocabulary, learned in elementary school art classes from coast to coast. It's a small but distinct marker of Canadian English. #Canada #CanadianSlang #WordOfTheDay #SchoolDays

  3. Also every single teacher was required to tell you that WordPerfect was better. Many teachers I had would teach that it had essentially a markdown view called ‘Reveal Codes’. It would let you exactly control and see the formatting of the document. It totally addressed the issues in Word of mucking up a document the moment you drop in an image.

Word afaik still doesn’t truly have such an ergonomic view. WordPerfect still maintains a niche in Legal and Education/Academia use because of the entrenched use of these formatting features.

  4. ~please no one tell corel~ I did buy it for $3

growing up in ontario in the 90s, I was taught WordPerfect and QuattroPro.

in elementary school my ‘dog ate my homework’ was that I’d bring my file on a diskette w/ a .doc from Word from home and be like ‘OoOooOppssss I can’t print it I’ll have to bring it tomorrow as RTF’ (and then actually do the book report) – I am no longer this lame we can blame the cloud now.

  5. Ministry Proposes Tax on Nostalgia Posts to Save the Environment

The Ministry has proposed a Nostalgia Tax on every "Only 90s kids will understand..." post. The revenue will help data centers survive the endless storage of recycled memories while an official investigation examines whether the good old days were actually good—or just remembered that way.

  11. I'll never forget this!

Back in 1987–1988, some friends from another high school decided to paint a farewell mural.
Instead of something nice, they painted a modified Stryper album cover designed to insult the teachers! 😂

By the time it was revealed, they had already graduated anyway.

  22. the worst part about doing homework with kiddo sn't that I can't do it as it's primary school.

I like to manually do it on my "answer sheet" with all the working out written down so I can show her where she went wrong as a learning exercise.

but it's when she gets it's so spectacularly wrong I sit there for a moment trying to work out what the sweet F*** she did to get that answer so I can explain it
