A number of issues on the table, but one assertion in the provided documentation speaks volumes: "Your Editor chooses what to publish, and AAA oversees how it gets published."
This division of labor is one to which many researchers no longer subscribe.

I've been having fun thinking about the lessons 350 yrs of Royal Society journal publishing... not so much for journals (or their finances), but for the relationship between societies and journals.
I started off assuming that I would be writing about why learned societies remain the ideal forms of organisation to support journals... but I ended up somewhere slightly different.
