In a classical garden
I saw a golden quince
It represented marriage
to the Greeks and people since
How fitting that its sweetness
is sore tempered by its thorns
If left unkept and untended
it is blemished and forlorn
Spouses take heed, remember
to love and to be tender

Through the woven ancient trees
appears a golden temple
that beckons to the faithful
of the past, long forgotten

My mind is full of leaves
that swirl around the trees,
the forest of my thoughts:
Its branches groan with moss.
I’ll rake leaves with these words,
write them down to assure
my cluttered head it’s not mad —
there’s order to be had

Kings and queens all fade away
Their pomp and glory crumbles
All that’s left of what they built
are ruins doomed to tumble
Nothing lasts and all must pass
To oblivion we all go
Hearts and clocks are doomed to stop
Time must ever stretch and flow
