My final Midnight Madness screening of this year's film festival. Fond memories of the schlocky original, this new version was a lot of silly, OTT fun. Looks like Dinklage & Kevin Bacon were enjoying themselves.

We watched "They Live" the other weekend, which I had not seen before.
I'm also watching Gintama (my friends are right: after about 10-15 episodes it really grows on you).
I am amused by the idea that Gintama is what happens after They Live ends. 😆

Watching #Hellboy Call of Darkness. 20 Minutes in and it's been all exposition exposition exposition.
I was about to turn it off, but then they had this flashback to a demonic Nazi ritual with the Nazis wearing red/blue LED Apple-style glasses while an old guy who looks like Mermaid Man from Spongebob shows up saying "Guten Tag!" like a cheap-ass version of Terminator's "hasta la vista".
WTF is this?! Who made this? The level of #schlock is strong with this one.

Poor Things: another faux-noir offering from Yorgos Lanthimos who may be the worst working filmmaker of the moment, or at least the worst one who has this big of an audience. What a shitshow. Hints of concepts that in the hands of someone with ideas and storytelling skills could have meant something, but horribly handled by Lanthimos. A lot of carefully planned shots and fine actors, all in service of absolutely nothing. A movie that wishes it could have been directed by a Bergman or a Lynch, not by this hack.
TL;DR Poor Things sucked and so does Yorgos Lanthimos

Watched the Japanese gothic-#horror-#comedy #schlock House (1977 dir. Nobuhiko Obayashi). Probably one of the more oddball-wacky flicks I've seen in a bit.
If you ever wondered what might happen if Evil Dead 2 & The Power Puff Girls were poured into a blender with a dash o' Willie Wonka & a splash of Eraserhead this might be the answer.
Amazingly, there are some really neat camera shots & effects throughout the #film to make it worthwhile.

1. folks who aren't from around here (i.e. aliens)
2. insects
3. atomic power, or anything vaguely 'radio-active', or invisible
4. scientists
5. losing precious bodily fluids
6. not being able to control nature
7. things growing abnormally large
8. things growing abnormally small
9. women
10. going to a strange place and not being welcome.
