From Mürren, take the cable car up to the top of #Schilthorn, and imagine yourself in the 1969 #JamesBond film either lounging in #PizGloria (revolving restaurant) or reenacting the alpine ski chase scene from the 2970m summit. ⛷️

(Needless to say I only did the former 😆)

First visit of the Schilthorn a.k.a. Piz Gloria, soon after our move to Switzerland. Lots of stuff has happened since, the mountains have been a constant companion.

The Sousbach springs below the Schilthorn, flows first into the Weisse Lütschine, which in turn flows into the Schwarze Lütschine and finally flows into Lake Brienz as Lütschine, whose water flows first as Aare and later as the Rhine in Hoek van Holland into the sea. 🌊

I saw some interesting sunset shadows. A bright red band across the mountains, and Schilthorn throwing a shadow cone across the clouds.

The first section (Stechelberg-Mürren) will be the steepest cablecar in the world (max 159%). Previous record was cablecar Loen‒Syklift in Norway (max 133%).

Tomorrow, 2.5 years after construction begin, the first two sections of the new cablecar between Stechelberg and Birg is taken into operation (Stechelberg-Mürren and Mürren-Birg). The last section (Birg-Schilthorn/Piz Gloria) will follow in March.

The highest mountain by the way of the Bernese Voralps is the Schilthorn (internationally better known as Piz Gloria) with a revolving restaurant on its summit at 2'970 meter.

360° windows on FensterFriday. On top of the Schilthorn (better known internationally as Piz Gloria from the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") the revolving restaurant give you a complete panorama. In this picture you can see the Eiger in the middle, with the Mönch to its right. A bit down you can see the middle station Birg.

Currently the cablecars are being modernized and other construction is also ongoing. Not the best time to go here at the moment (photo is from a few years back).

View from the route to the Rotstockhütte looking up to the Schilthorn, internationally better known as Piz Gloria (although technically this is the name of the revolving restaurant on the summit). From the right you can see the cable car coming from Birg Station.

The name of the restaurant is in its turn taken from the Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969). Piz Gloria is the name of the mountain-top hideout of the villain Blofeld. The production team found the restaurant partly constructed and contributed financially to its completion in return for exclusive use for filming.
