NYT reports that New York investigators filed a 160-page motion on Friday accusing the Art Institute of Chicago of blatantly ignoring evidence of an elaborate fraud undertaken to conceal that the artwork had been looted by the Nazis on the eve of World War II.

Egon Schiele, House with Shingle Roof (Old House II), 1915
The painting does not blend topographical features into a compact landscape of houses with Cubist facets and a nonetheless organic appearance, but isolates a single building and stages it in a monumentalizing manner in imaginary surroundings constructed with few, monochrome color planes. The house has been preserved in Český Krumlov/Krumau until today, receives an almost inappropriate staging
