  1. The #Energy #Climate & #Environment program at #IIASAVienna had its quarterly meeting last Friday (~100 researchers), so I had to reflect on our role as community data hub and what to present on behalf of the #ScenarioServices & #ScientificSoftware team.

We developed a new #ScenarioExplorer front-end last year, and we made a lot of progress with our #opensource packages for scenario analysis, validation & data-management.

Step by step towards #OpenScience and reusable, reproducible analysis...

  2. How can we reach the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and fulfill our #climate ambition? This is explored by a multi-model study by @PIK_climate, #IIASA, #PBL and other teams in the #SHAPE project.

And I'm excited that all scenario data is available under #CC_BY via an #IIASA #ScenarioExplorer, using our brand-new database infrastructure and a new web front-end...

  3. The #IIASA #ScenarioExplorer was launched for #IPCC #SR15 in 2018 and has since become a central pillar for model comparison & #scenario analysis.

We're now rolling out the next generation of this tool!

  4. You can see this quite clearly in the #AR6 #ScenarioExplorer, illustrated by the SSP2-scenarios of the
    #IMAGE model.
    The SSP2-Baseline (+3.8°C in 2100) and an ambitious #ClimatePolicy SSP2-26 (stabilization at 1.6°C) have identical #population trends.

  5. To review the (draft) update of national #SSP projections for #GDP and #population, you can...

    1. View the data via our interactive #ScenarioExplorer hosted by the #IIASA #ScenarioServices team
    2. Download the full dataset as xlsx
    3. Access the data via our #Python or #Rstats API

And with our #opensource package #pyam_iamc, it's as easy as the snippet below...
    ... to get something that's just like a #pandas #DataFrame - but better!

  6. Are your a #SoftwareDeveloper that would like to work on #Climate-related #opensource tools & #dataviz solutions?

Or are your an #EarlyCareer #Researcher that prefers programming to paper-writing?

    The #ScenarioServices team at the #IIASA #Energy #Climate & #Environment program is hiring a #ScientificSoftware developer to implement new (#opensource) user interfaces & #dataviz features for our #ScenarioExplorer infrastructure.

  7. The #Horizon2020 project #openENTRANCE is drawing to a close, so we're preparing an #innovation document of #modeling & #dataviz tools that we didn't have time to implement - so that other projects can take up the baton!

Any ideas or requests how we could make the #openENTRANCE #ScenarioExplorer or the #pyam_iamc package more useful for understanding 🇪🇺 #European pathways towards #ClimateNeutrality?

  8. Curious to dive into quantitative #climate pathways ahead of #COP27 on how we can reach (or miss) the goals of the #ParisAgreement?

Check out the #ScenarioExplorer of socio-economic scenarios developed jointly between the IAM community and the "Network for greening the Financial System" (#NGFS)!
