I drew Entre Sombras three years ago. It's my first picture where I embraced the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic that has enthralled me for decades. That decision has brought about a significant change in my work; as a result, interesting things have started taking place.

My discovery of the Pre-Raphaelites happened long ago; I've begun a new series, Vision and Beauty, where I talk about the influence the Pre-Raphaelites have had on my work. Ten years ago, I started on a journey to recoup diminished skills brought on by real-life circumstances. I was unhappy about where I was in my work and decided to put serious energy into getting m work to where I wanted it to be. This portrait of sculptor Auguste Rodin was the first piece of work I produced that indicated to me that I was on the right path. For four decades, I’ve loved flamenco. I love all of it: cante, toque, and baile. Traditional Andalusian flamenco has a magic that’s hard to describe. Spanish Gitanos keep this centuries-old tradition alive in their singing, guitar playing, and dancing. I draw a good amount of inspiration from people such as 19th Century engraver Gustave Doré, Irish book illustrator Harry Clarke, and Pen and ink maestro Bernie Wrightson. These men set the bar for pen and ink illustration, and their Work remains an inspiration. This pen and ink portrait (After Burne-Jones) of famed Pre-Raphaelite muse Maria Zambaco recalls the golden era of pen and ink illustration.
