  1. It's #PolanskiPileOn day in the #UKmedIa. Special bonus prize to #TheTimes for putting 'sorry' in #ScareQuotes!

Tomorrow, in all papers on all pages, and in every TV news ahow:

1/ Polanski's Wicked Plan To Build Houses And Cut Energy Bills Proves That He is An Evil Monster
2/ How To Keep Your Child Safe From Polanski
3/ People Who Oppose Genocide Scare Me
4/ The Loon Who Thinks That Kicks In The Head Are Not Great

  2. *If* what the "AI" [1] grifters say in their sales pitches were true [2], and their LLMs are good at writing prose, summarizing other text, and writing code, then it follows that you should be able to do this:

"<LLM-agent>, write an LLM prompt text that will cause a code-generating LLM to create a Gmail clone, including server-side code and client-side user interface."

Then feed that to CopyLot or whatever, and out pops a Gmail clone.

[1] Bovine excretory corollary to Sturgeon's Law: if an article about "AI" doesn't use scare quotes on (at minimum) the first use of the term, it is guaranteed grifter salesbabble, not actual human thought. If scare quotes *are* properly used, then it's only 90% likely to be grifter #salesbabble.

    [2] It isn't.

  3. — I removed the word "accidental" from the headline, and put the word “mistake” in #scarequotes because I don't believe for one second that it was either accidental or a mistake, and neither did the original authors—as the story about the "accident" was titled “Forging a Sacred Weapon.”

Historically, in previous #translations of the #Bible, the #word re-translated by these 22 men as "#homosexuals" originally referred to "#BoyMolesters."

  4. @Skepticat
Obviously a totally unhinged rant, decoupled from reality in every possible way, but it was at least internally consistent... That is, until he put "happy" in #ScareQuotes.

Like... Donnie... Why go to all the trouble of crafting one of your perfect little nuggets of #agitprop / #StochasticTerrorism, if you're just gonna cast a shadow of uncertainty over the whole thing at the very end?

This is just so incredibly embarrassing for everyone who follows him, because not only is he wrong about everything, he's not even remotely smooth about it. Not an ounce of real charisma in that entire bloated corpse of his.

Donnie rolls a natural 1 for deception every single time he opens his mouth, but his followers all skipped the wisdom and insight columns on their character sheets, and they all dutifully roll natural 1s on their deception checks.

  5. I am so tired of search engines "deciding" I don't care about the terms I've searched for even when using the advanced syntaxes, quotes, +, -, site:, inurl:, etc.

    Why ignore my input?
Why do they all produce the same results?

Anyone have a "good" search engine recommendation?

I miss Altavista and its plain-old boolean operators for search. I can even craft/tune a search that returns pages I "know" are out there.
