For those who enjoy #Bluegrass and #FolkMusic - I wrote an essay on #NordicFolkMusic for a Bluegrass-loving friend of mine. It’s full of links to a bunch of my favorite #ScandinavianMusic groups, songs and shoutouts to unique instruments like the Nykelharpa, the Hardanger Fiddle and the Hurdy Gurdy - as well as nods to ethnic (Sami) folk, pagan folk and polka. If you like the vibe of folk music and you don’t mind the obsessive ravings of an amateur #EthnoMusicolgy afficionado, you may enjoy the read. Hit the links, cause I know you’ll enjoy the #Music. https://docs.google.com/document/d/151G-Wg623iFVeSATyQZlJ0CyHxJpBN3wl0D1VQHsN5M/edit?usp=drivesdk [shared Google Doc]

🇩🇰 Gasolin' "Efter endnu en dag" – 1976
Produced by Roy Thomas Baker who also produced Queen. A mature and expansive album that captures Gasolin’ at their creative peak. The sound blends rock, folk influences, and more atmospheric, almost progressive elements, resulting in a record that feels both grounded and ambitious...

🇸🇪 Melissa Horn "Den jag kunde blivit – den jag blev" – 2024
A deeply introspective album built on acoustic arrangements, subtle instrumentation, and emotionally direct songwriting. Horn’s vocal delivery is intimate and unembellished, drawing the listener into themes of regret, identity, and personal reflection...

🇸🇪 Lisa Ekdahl "Lisa Ekdahl" – 1994
Jazz-inflected arrangements and understated pop sensibility with acoustic instrumentation.
Ekdahl’s vocal style is distinctive: airy, conversational, and slightly fragile giving the material a personal and disarming charm. The lyrics move between romance, reflection, and everyday observation...#lisaekdahl #swedishmusic #jazzpop #acoustic #scandinavianmusic #vocaljazz #vinylcommunity #vinyl #music #vinylrecords #nowspinningonvinyl #nowspinning #nowlistening

Just remembered I had the only album by Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers on CD. It’s one of my favorites in the modern folk/appalachian/bluegrass/traditional genre (think Nickel Creek but with Scandinavian instruments and influences). Highly recommend. Not many places to stream (they have some YouTube videos of live performances though) but you won’t regret buying it.

Falls heute irgendwer Bock auf eine musikalische Reise durch Skandinavien, Island, Finnland hat... Have fun!
(Frag mich ja , wo man denn Estland, Lettland, Litauen vergleichsweise musikalisch einordnen würde, wenn man müsste...?)
