Thinking about working with the City of #Albuquerque's #Library System to put together an hour-long talk for #seniors (and #caregivers) in the #Community about how to avoid being #scammed #online. There's 19 #libraries in #ABQ. Don't know if I could travel to all 19 libraries across the City but I'd be willing to try. I want to give back a little to this City and community that I've grown so fond of.

Crisis averted. She saw ‘Mobil’ (the gas station) on her credit card statement and panicked because she had just set up an X account, after being constantly badgered into it by her Google searches. 🙃

Well, I got #scammed on #ebay. I bought what was listed as an #os2warp 3 plus bonus pack.
This is what I got in the mail. A CDR with the floppy version of os2 warp 3 (without the bonus pack), small print said that the pictures were just "for illustration".
Luckily the listing also said that the software was GPL licensed so even assuming I knew it was just a CDR of pirated software it STILL doesn't match the listing.
Am I getting my money back? Place your bets.

Looking at internet providers.
Realises I somehow pay about €10 per month more than advertised.
Opens profile on the provider's site.Currently have: Internet Giga "not available on your address".
Can choose: "Wifi Groot". Which is the advertised cost, and €10 cheaper.How am I paying, for I don't know how long, for a package which, according to the provider, isn't even available on my location?

Prevented a work colleague from getting #scammed for a "parking" #fine - she is new to the country and was jarred by official looking "gov.uk" warning in message she had received.
She would not even have been in any restricted zone on the day of the "offence", as if she goes into town she takes the bus rather than drive in busy traffic.
I suspect "hostile environment" is a factor (she would be scared to get in even the slightest trouble with the law due to immigration status..)

- And schools can pay for software that reads the papers and figures out whether the student wrote it or an AI did?Folks, we're being scammed!
- Alan Turing wanted to build machines that could impersonate a human in teletypewritten communication.
- John McCarthy wanted to build machines with common sense.
- John von Neumann wanted to build self-replicating machines and to upload his consciousness into a machine.Claude Shannon wanted to build machines that made him money. But somebody has built a machine that enriches itself on the backs of students and teachers?

I am currently being #scammed on #WhatsApp by someone who I vague know but suspect is being impersonated. Now, this person in my second degree of connections and is in a position of power.
Either this is some incredible #spearphishing...
...or I am throwing away the biggest #networking connection of my entire career so far!
Ah, well in for a penny, in for a few thousand pounds of #Apple Store #GiftCards, what? 😅

LA Times article about someone who turned a rental into an Airbnb... had to roll my eyes at how the homeowner judged the renter's character...
"...made a great impression on the walk-through, driving up in a white Tesla and sporting a Rolex."
(driving a Tesla is not necessarily a red flag, unless it's a Cybertruck -- but combined with "wearing a Rolex" would be a **huge** red flag. Just owning/showing off a Rolex is a red flag.)

I very nearly got #scammed with a bogus job opportunity on Linkedin. I spent an hour and a half yesterday in a Team Chat interview on Zoom and another half hour today. It ended with all the typical funny money instructions. I gave no account numbers, but I wasted time and energy. These creeps go to great lengths to fool people. Be careful out there!

I got #scammed somewhere in the last days... 😱
And if my wife hadn't noticed, I would probably have scammed the next person in the coming days.
Someone handed me a 10 Baht piece instead of a 2€ piece. I guess this proves once more that I'm better off using cards instead of 'physical' money. 🙄
