Tiny tweaks done anymore: a bit of chipping, then oil paint mud splatter and rust in two tones.
In a moment of silliness I decided to use a pointy bamboo stick (for cake testing) to make nail ends on the wooden planks of the Packkiste. Just on the top and outer sides that could be seen normally. That was fun and like I said, a silly detail.
How did I get that gun barrel looking that nasty? 👀

After the Sepia wash I covered the setup with super matt varnish, and over that I drybrushed the edgea and corners with ivory. That improved the readability nicely.
Then I felt like using superdiluted ivory for some sandy accumulation on the hull but it ended up looking dirty in a wrong way (see pics), so I attempted to tone it down with Vallejo's acrylic thinner right after. Will check the results today after work if I dare 🫣

I had an hour and got cracking. Now there's a silly camo and the rocket launchers are pretty much done, the thinned down brown wash for extra woodiness was still flashing when I took the photos. Those rubber band tracks are not fun, though, not at all.
It's been quite an enjoyable model 😎

Hotchkiss 39 is sealed, primed and based with sand yellow. I've been also handpainting the wooden Packkiste and still suck at painting woodlike things. So far I got them basecoated and lightened once, some drybrushing and brown-washing is still coming up.
When I've got the green and brown camo stripes painted on and installed the floppy tracks, I'll attach the aiming frames with the crates in place. Maybe, just maybe, I get to start with some of that today already 😎

Having finished the previous project(s) except for the photos, I started a new build: a German-captured and modified French Hotchkiss 39 light tank, by Trumpeter. Ze zermans had been crafty and installed some 320mm rockets launchers on it because why not?
Mostly assembled over a couple of evenings, now I started (mis)painting the sealed insides no one'll ever see after I glue the hull shut 😄

Straight back from the vacation, I went on oil dot filtering the parade side of the Messerschmitt. I think I've got something like two milliliters of thinner left anymore, luckily I had ordered more just two hours earlier.
As always, while working on it I felt like a horrendous mess. Drying up toned it down quite a lot already and I expect it to look nicer tomorrow. Or hope.
I am not entirely sure if I will do anything on the black grey underside, though 🤔

I was pleased with the sepia lines on the top side, and today I gave snow white oil wash a go. As it happens I may have been too eager and tried to do all in one go, but I'll messify this more later anyway. We'll see.

Oil paint time! Part 1/n, today I just used some too much thinned Abteilung's Sepia on the non-black parts of the plane. Pulling most of it away and blending around just on the gut feeling left the plane looking somewhat dirty.
That was a huge improvement over the clean plane. Next I'll try a white or off-white pin wash on the the dark side, hoping it looks decent. I expect that it will behave.

While I'm outside my modeling comfort zone already, I decided to give the decals a(nother) chance. At least in 1:72 they are loathsome and I much prefer painting the markings. But what the hell, I could try these bigger ones.
Thirty plus minutes later I got the Balkenkreuze, red twelves, serial nr in the tail plus a couple of triangles. A few small ones tomorrow and I'll call it done. I will not use all the tiny ones anyway, especially on the black belly side

This is as far as I got for now. Tomorrow I'll take my airbrush for sonic cleaning etc. I wish I could say the cloudy pattern was purposeful but oh boy how it wasn't 😅 All I intend to add, paintjob-wise is some mottling on the airframe, maybe some splinter shapes on the wings, and the Balkenkreuze.

Ugly patching done, all the little things installed. The long antenna in the bottom poses some challenges until I get the landing gear glued in. For painting convenience I just want that crap painted separately to avoid even more swearing 😅 Those radar antlers were way easier than I expected, which was nice.
I thought I could start priming today but masking the canopy took way too long. Tomorrow, then, for the last day of a four-day weekend.

Swearing continued with the JuMo 004 assembly and fitting. Then I noticed I am missing half a rudder or tail fin. The latter I try to mitigate with a piece of 1mm styrene but it won't look good. That'll still be better than only the left half 😝
Building is finally far enough for me to think of the painting operation itself. I'll do the wheels separately to maybe save my nerves. To get to that I think I need to mask and seal the cockpit canopy in place. Decisions...

That and the wing-halves joining has always been a loathsome process: they depend so heavily on the previous steps and if one has misunderstood the instructions or slightly misaligned some bits, this is where one finds out. Way too late to fix it nicely anymore. Grumble grumble.
Unsurprisingly something had been off and I am grumbling. Maybe I can salvage it. Annoying, as I was having slow fun 😋

Small changes in a way, but they made a noticeable difference: the airframe halves are now joined with the cannon part installed. I glued and puttied two screws into the closed lower segments (where the autocannon ejector ports are) for weighting, but nose needs more extra mass.
Soon I can seal the earlier made cockpit and start on airbrushable stuff, yay!

Slow indeed: in a week I've done the two-person cockpit and now the quad autocannon section. Painted simply, but painted anyway.
So far the only metallic paint I've used has been Duraluminium on the outside of the crew's armoured tub. The things that are to be sealed out of sight are all unpainted, like the nose here that expects to receive 15g of additional weights. No idea yet what or where to obtain tiny weights locally, though 🤔
