  1. This is as far as I got for now. Tomorrow I'll take my airbrush for sonic cleaning etc. I wish I could say the cloudy pattern was purposeful but oh boy how it wasn't 😅 All I intend to add, paintjob-wise is some mottling on the airframe, maybe some splinter shapes on the wings, and the Balkenkreuze.

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #Me262

  2. Ugly patching done, all the little things installed. The long antenna in the bottom poses some challenges until I get the landing gear glued in. For painting convenience I just want that crap painted separately to avoid even more swearing 😅 Those radar antlers were way easier than I expected, which was nice.

I thought I could start priming today but masking the canopy took way too long. Tomorrow, then, for the last day of a four-day weekend.

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #Me262

  3. Swearing continued with the JuMo 004 assembly and fitting. Then I noticed I am missing half a rudder or tail fin. The latter I try to mitigate with a piece of 1mm styrene but it won't look good. That'll still be better than only the left half 😝

Building is finally far enough for me to think of the painting operation itself. I'll do the wheels separately to maybe save my nerves. To get to that I think I need to mask and seal the cockpit canopy in place. Decisions...

  4. Lots of swearing with the fitting of the wings into the airframe. That and the wing-halves joining has always been a loathsome process: they depend so heavily on the previous steps and if one has misunderstood the instructions or slightly misaligned some bits, this is where one finds out. Way too late to fix it nicely anymore. Grumble grumble.

Unsurprisingly something had been off and I am grumbling. Maybe I can salvage it. Annoying, as I was having slow fun 😋

    #scaleModeling #WIP #Me262

  5. Small changes in a way, but they made a noticeable difference: the airframe halves are now joined with the cannon part installed. I glued and puttied two screws into the closed lower segments (where the autocannon ejector ports are) for weighting, but nose needs more extra mass.

Soon I can seal the earlier made cockpit and start on airbrushable stuff, yay!

  6. Slow indeed: in a week I've done the two-person cockpit and now the quad autocannon section. Painted simply, but painted anyway.

So far the only metallic paint I've used has been Duraluminium on the outside of the crew's armoured tub. The things that are to be sealed out of sight are all unpainted, like the nose here that expects to receive 15g of additional weights. No idea yet what or where to obtain tiny weights locally, though 🤔

  7. Slow and cautious is how I proceed, three hobby sessions done and I'm almost ready to move on to the radar operator's station behind the pilot. Looks fun, I need to apply gloss varnish on the dials before I seal the thing.

  8. Hummel pin washed, cleaned up, then chipped and after that again dirtified wit different brown oils like fresh and old rust and just "mud", and all gently blended around. So much fun.

When all that had dried up, I matt varnished the whole model. Tomorrow I'll use some mud pigments and a graphite pen for final highligts and call the Bumblebee done.

  13. Airbrushing a freehand-camouflage out of my own head left me with a couple of things to fix on the Hummel. This is why I like masking, less space for those 😋

When the greens and browns were done, I diluted some gunmetal and went to town with the roadwheel-polished parts of the tracks. The running ones will be muddy-dirtier while the short track armour will be mostly fresh rusty.

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #Airbrushing

  14. Basecoating the Hummel in sandy yellow, blasting more from above and high angles to keep some shadows. Also, I was again not aiming for a flat coat but to keep a bit of the shadows given by the black primer. If it looks off tomorrow, I may touch it up, otherwise I'll start on brown/green for the camouflage.

Tracks, being bare steel, got painted dark grey. I'll do the ground-clean steel later, and after that the diluted dirts. Or that's the plan, anyway 😋

  15. Himmel, ein Hummel in 1:35!

I started building the Tamiya Hummel a couple of weeks ago, instead of taking dslr photos of already completed projects. At least I remembered uncle NightShift's armour texture trick this time 😄 Now all I have left are are the 3d printed tracks and the crew with accessories. Then I can start painting, yay!

This'll be slow as time's limited during this season. Priming's a January thing earliest, I think. That'll be fun 🤘🏻

  16. Sharp-edged polygons filled in green and brown, lines remain sandy. That was my idea. Then I failed in applied mathematics (geometry) and colour theory: there are green/green and brown/brown pairs, which might work with the lines but sandy polygons would be a better idea to separate the shapes.

That brown is slightly too bright, and needs more darkening than just an oil wash, I think. Still, I'm not frustrated, it's not a mistake but a happy accident :D

  17. That was quick, I am still slowly building the StuG III when the #Hummel, a #Tamiya kit this time, became fetchable. It was there on Tuesday already, but I could swing by Tieto-Nikkari no earlier than today.

Another nice detour on the way home, on probably the last nice summery day this year. No complaints, I also had another good chat with one of the shop owners.

  18. To all those headed to #Wonderfest this weekend in Louisville, KY ...

I hope you have a great time and be sure to take lots of pics for the rest of us!

  19. One third of my wonderfully silly #Decepticon #Seeker project is done with a 1:72-scale #Starscream - hooray!

I'm quite happy with him, even if the model suffered a couple of setbacks. These final photos need cleanup, but I guess this shows the result well enough to celebrate :D

Now I need to buy, build and paint the other two Seekers!

    #ScaleModeling #finished

  20. And then one of the cats knocked the damn thing to the floor. Nose wheel broke and the repair looks like it was AI-generated 😅

I applied a yellow-grey-buff dot filtering on the top, used some Industrial Earth on the bottom and satin varnished the thing. Too shiny, will do a matt one later. And after that I'll drybrush some black on the Vulcan port, maybe the vents too.

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #OilPaints #weathering #Decepticon #Seeker

  21. Instead of a finely controlled and elegant pin wash I covered the whole F-15E model in a dynamic thinness wash of Abteilung's Sepia. After a bit of time I cleaned it mostly up. There's still more to do, and I'll use some dot filtering and/or buff later on some bits, and a bit of Industrial Earth on the underside. I think 😄

The drop tank gluing sucks badly, and the left landing gear came off. This fiddliness aggravates me to no end.

    #WIP #ScaleModeling #OilPaints #weathering #Decepticon #Seeker

  22. One could think I have invested in shares of the masking/painter's tape manufacturers. I made some silly tape-based stencils. It started as a scaled-down and printed insignia, which I used for cutting a piece of 0,5mm styrene into a template for reusability. All this for a few silly blasts of airbrush 😄 I just hope the result looks like Decepticon icon.

Also, attempt at heat staining on the engines. Mostly stippled blue wash and some violet one later.

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #nerdiness #Seekers

  23. Another long masking session with a few minutes of airbrushing done yesterday. I fixed the previous few oversprays and covered the engine platings and nozzles with Vallejo's gunmetal. That left some tight spots to be fixed with a brush later, but that's ok.

Maybe the landing gear bays with the wheels and a few darker grey panels next?

    #ScaleModeling #Seekers #nerdiness #WIP

  24. After spending way too many decimeters of masking tape between three airbrushing sessions the regocnizable paintjob part is done for the first of three F-15s in this megaproject of mine. Seeing this makes me surprisingly happy 😄

I've still got to do the metallics, fix a few bits where the crappy painter's tape failed, and the roundels. How in the Empire do I do those? Print some on an A4 and cut out as stencils? 🤔

    #ScaleModeling #WIP #nerdiness #Seeker

  25. Said F-15E got so very boring with a layer of Vallejo USAF Medium Grey but fear not, it _will_ be nerdified!

I just need to decide on the painting and therefore the masking order. Lots of ddg'ng has been spent on checking sources, which has led me to feel I've got a few choices to make.

  26. CW: Scale model parts of a severed head and neck gore.

Almost done working on the Horseman. Finished the neck gore and the severed head.

My first time speed-painting a face by hand.

Fun fact: The head is molded in Tim Burton's likeness, which they removed in later kits.

Now for a gloss coat tomorrow. Then I can wash and dry-brush everything before final clears and assembly.

  27. Work continues on the Horseman. I'm using Apple Barrel craft paints for the majority of the base coating. They work well once you get the hang of it.

Small and important details I'll handle with the fancy and/or pancy miniature paints.

Washes and dry-brshes will then follow after a quick gloss seal.

I might just get this done on time (Oct. 29, 11:59pm), but I don't wanna jinx it.

    Going for dusty/crusty ...

  28. All the parts are primed for the Headless Horseman.

I used Duplicolor Black and Tamiya Fine White in rattle cans.

Hopefully the black will serve as a good enough base coat for the horse and Hessian.

I might be able to get this done in about a week. We'll see. It's a big kit.

    🤞

  29. Working on The Headless Horseman #scalemodel from Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.

I have all I want cemented together for now (the Horseman isn't actually attached). I typically use a combo of #Tamiya Extra Thin cement and MEK to weld the parts together.

I also have a batch of sprue-goo dissolving down now for some of the gaps. The it'll be two part filler and maybe some putty.

It's a big kit, so it should be fun to #airbrush and #paint

  30. At last I could install the tracks and the wheelsets. Of course the self-made antenna finally snapped off, so that was to be fixed later on.

Had I been smart, I'd realized that _before_ doing chipping and pin washing, I should have painted the slogans and/or numbers and the red stars. Or used the decals. Now they'd stand out in the wrong way no matter which was done. Bah. I'd go without.

Next up: acrylic mud and earth tones with oil paints

    #scaleModeling #liveAndLearn #mistakes

  31. Another 1+ hour painting session later the chipping's practically done. Overboard? Hopefully not. The ringlike scratches around the turret are supposed to represent damage caused by flying debris getting caught under the turret.

Next I get to try out my new AK Interactive's 3rd gen paints for the wooden boxes and handles.

  32. Astonishingly I spent over an hour with this. The sponge didn't work too well, my paint was a shade too dark still so I mixed a lighter one (sand/ivory) and hand-painted some scratches and dents around the tank.

Then I redid what insides I could with the remaining time, using red-tinted German Grey. For a first try I'm somewhat pleased, even if I'm no Uncle Night Shift by any measure 😋 What I can say is that it's lots of fun! 👍🏻

  36. The mine-clearing sounded like a job description that warranted some more wear and tear than what I usually attempt with my models. I felt brave enough to give Uncle NightShift's general approach a go - except that I didn't mix up a proper light tone.

So this first go had a few test areas done with a mix of German Grey + red, for the anti-rust paint effect. Looks half-decent. I'll take a more organized shot this evening.
