  1. A century ago, the typical Australian was a 24-year-old man. Today, the face of the nation looks quite different.
According to the latest data from SBS News and the ABS:

*The "average" Australian is now a 38-year-old woman.
*She was born in Australia, speaks English at home, and has English ancestry.
*Most Australians live in major cities and reside in a three-bedroom home with a mortgage.
*Nearly half of the population (48%) has at least one parent born overseas, highlighting Australia's identity as a nation of migrants.
*The median weekly wage is approximately $1,436 before tax.
*The typical household has access to two motor vehicles.

While these statistics provide a snapshot of the majority, the data also shows significant regional variations, such as the Northern Territory having a much younger median age (33) and a higher proportion of residents who speak a language other than English (32%).
