  1. Any bad news for #GregAbbott is good news for Texas. SB4 which would allow police to arrest/detain any "suspected" illegal migrant... that is to say: illegal, legal, or just looks too tanned, has remained blocked. For now.

  2. Stephen Miller praising Texas’ #SB4 as “great” and “incredible” tells you everything you need to know about its cruelty towards communities of color: mediamatters.org/stephen-mille

  3. El Paso County Commissioner David Stout said Texas is "wasting billions of dollars on failed policies that are only focused on enforcements and deterrents.”

"We need that money and could be spending it to access education, health care and housing, things that are really needed in the state." #SB4

  4. Texas’s #SB4 law, which is currently on hold, is also drawing concerns from law enforcement figures.

In Eagle Pass, the local sheriff said his “deputies are not trained for immigration work.”

"How are we going to do this? It’s impossible…What if we deport a U.S. citizen?”

  5. Working on a #folksong: SbStay

Texas past #SB4 which would let them detain and jail migrants. The US District Court stayed sb4 which the 5th Circuit stayed. Alito stayed the 5th Circuits stay. Then, Alito unstayed his stay, four minutes later stayed again. Hours later, SCOTUS unstayed Alito's stay which let the 5th Circuit stay of the district Court stay stay so the District Court's stay was not unstayed. Hours later, the 5th Circuit unstayed its stay and now the District Court's stay, stays.

  6. Confused about what’s happening with the stupid, racist, inhumane immigration law (#SB4) in TX? You’re in good company! Steve Vladeck helps break it down in his recent newsletter:

  7. Texas’ new “show me your papers” law is blocked again.

“Hours after the U.S. Supreme Court had allowed #SB4 to go into effect, a federal appeals court let an earlier injunction stand.”

  8. Here is the brief, late-night #FifthCircuit federal appeals court ruling that effectively again blocked a #Texas #immigration #law, #SB4, hours after the #SCOTUS had cleared the way for it to take effect. The TX law would make it a #crime to cross into the state from #Mexico, giving local authorities the #power to #arrest people suspected of illegally entering the country.

  9. The late-night reversal meant that an #injunction imposed by a #federal district court last month would again be in force, blocking the #law from being in effect.

The back-&-forth series of #legal orders — & the on-again-off-again reality of a sweeping new #state-level #immigration law— prompted uncertainty along the #border & defiance from #Mexico’s govt on Tues.

Even before the #FifthCircuit’s late order, it had been unclear when #Texas would begin making arrests under the law.

  10. Hours after #SCOTUS allowed the #Texas #Immigration #Law #SB4 to go into effect, the #FifthCircuit unexpectedly issued an order effectively blocking the law’s implementation.

A 3-judge panel of Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said that it was dissolving its own earlier ruling, which had cleared the way for the law to be implemented once the #SupremeCourt acted.

  11. Still, #UnpackTheCourts, USA.

So that nothing like this is never allowed to happen for any length of time.

    BREAKING: #SB4 is blocked again.

A majority of the Fifth Circuit panel hearing argument on Texas's stay application *tomorrow morning* just issued an order "dissolving" the "administrative stay" that a different panel imposed on March 2. So the injunction goes back into effect.

  12. “Mexico will decline Texas deportees following controversial SCOTUS decision.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stern statement after today's SCOTUS decision saying it 'categorically rejects' Texas' #SB4.”

  13. #Biden WH blasts #SCOTUS ruling letting Texas #SB4 immigration crackdown law take effect. 'We fundmentally disagree' with the high court's order per the WH PressSec.

  14. JUST NOW: SCOTUS is allowing Texas to enforce its extreme “show me your papers” law.

If any folks think that only undocumented immigrants will be affected by #SB4, they are sadly mistaken. Governor Greg Abbott’s nativist crackdown has already been profiling and targeting US citizens.

  15. The #law, known as #SB4, makes it a #state #crime for #migrants to illegally cross the #border & allows #Texas officials to #deport #undocumented individuals. It was passed last year amid a historic surge in border crossings — part of Gov. #GregAbbott’s (#Republican) push to expand the state’s role in #immigration enforcement, which historically has been a #federal responsibility.
