In #Mahāyāna #Buddhism the #bodhisattva ideal shifts the goal from personal liberation to universal #awakening. Liberation is not escape from #saṃsāra but compassionate return through #bodhicitta, where #wisdom (#prajna) and #compassion (#karuna) act together for all beings. In this post, I have composed a short overview of how the bodhisattva, from #philosophical foundations to #ethical significance, has shaped the trajectory of Mahāyāna practice:

Such existential angst is generated by the ontological ideas of ancient Indian thought.

In a way, this "pain" is produced by discovering oneself existing as part of the cycle of reincarnations (#saṃsāra) and is resolved by the existence of a possible release from it (#mokṣa).

In addition to being a key element for #Hinduism, it is the basis on which the non-theistic religions of a salvific nature in India, such as #Buddhism and #Jainism, are built.
