Log stops and clamps installed as well. The log stops also needed squaring but that was quick and easy.

I've also moved it over to one side of the concrete beams so the log stops can drop down in the space between instead of hitting the concrete. Glad I didn't bolt it down yet :)

Looks exactly the same as before, but after half a day of work it is aligned and levelled and bolted together.

Sighting over the bunks looks nice now instead of bumpy like an old concrete slab highway.

The sawmill head is ready to be lifted on. But first some more digging around the house.

Had another half hour on this.

It is indeed quite a faff to align everything, especially since its made of three sections clamped together with joiner plates.

So it has to be level (in two directions), square, straight and also the width needs to be exactly 66 mm between the rail outsides.

The feet are adjustable but the bunks simply have their bolts loosened slightly and are then whacked more or less gently with that log in the cart there until achieving width and squareness.

Worth spending the time though, the better the alignment, the better the result.

Found some time to work on my metal puzzle side project, assembling the sawmill tracks.

As you can see by everything suddenly being very wet, I was rudely interrupted by the sort of weather that has little cows hide scared under their mamas. Ice cold rain and hail driven by strong gusts.

I hid in the barn. Got as far as putting it all together, but leaving the bolts loose for the great faff of levelling and squaring everything.

That was fun. Lego for adults. Took about half a day to assemble the head, much of that hauling it back out of the rear of the barn to turn it around, then getting it out of the steel crate it came in and onto this pallet.

That's the sawmill head assembled. The tracks will have to wait as any good weather will mean work on the house foundation instead.

Looks good and apart from one nut having fallen out of a broken bag and a few minor documentation niggles the thing is pretty impressive so far.

Probably will be a while before the first cut as the house renovation takes priority.

This is what those two laid down concrete power pylons were for, in case it wasn't obvious.

For the last month, in between other jobs, I've been slowly preparing some ground.

Hauled material around with a improvised dump trailer (awkward, but I made do), leveled the area, brought in two long concrete pylons and pushed them into position.

Now they just need to be leveled and bedded.

Spent Saturday and Sunday with my brother milling white ash into the parts needed for a new staircase. It’s a full-family project as the ash came from my wife’s family bush lot. The stairs are for our new home on the property where my wife’s grandparents lived from the 1940s on. My children are the fourth generation to have called it home.
