My favorite (most eye-opening) quote:
The real problem is that Hawai‘i is still a modern-day colonial state that has, generation after generation, displaced the Native Hawaiian people from the land, their natural resources, way of life, and culture.

I finished #Kuleana by #saraKehaulaniGoo and it was really good, highly recommended. There’s a glossary entry I want to comment on though. I had never seen “kane” without the kahakō for “man” but I wondered if she was on to something here, because of the elegant parallelism with wahine/wāhine. But Wehewehe does not have “man” as a meaning for “kane.” #bookstodon

I’m reading Kuleana by Sara Kehaulani Goo and she mentions how she acquired a recording of a radio interview with her great grandmother Malaka/Martha Kahanu Inagawa from the 70s. As soon as I got to that part, I did a search at ulukau.org and quickly found the interview! The song about Piʻilani Hale Heiau starts at 21:30. #kuleana #saraKehaulaniGoo #bookstodon #nationalTropicalBotanicGarden #ntbg #kahanu
