August 2010. This is a Class 441 electric of the Republika Srpska Railways, hauling a #Sarajevo 🇧🇦 to #Zagreb 🇭🇷 service. The train makes a stop at #Doboj, as the name board suggests. The loco was built in 1967 by the Austrian SGP loco works for the Yugoslav Railways #JŽ. It is based on a Swedish design.

In September 2008 I travelled by train from #Sarajevo 🇧🇦 to #Ploče 🇭🇷. A few kilometres before reaching our destination by the #Adriatic, and shortly after they switched the locomotives from a Bosnian #ŽFBH Class 441 to a Croatian #HŽ 1141.3 one, we made a longer stop where I could take this picture with the permission of the train crew.

Der frühere Sekretär von #KurtEisner nach der #Revolution 7.11.1918 in #München und #Bayern bekam er nach dessen Ermordung und der Niederschlagung der #raeterepublik noch ein Verfahren des #Landesverrat, weil er die deutsche Kriegsschuld mit öffentlich gemacht hatte: #Kriegstreiber brauchten nur den Auslöser in #Sarajevo, die Waffen und Hetze gegen Russland und Frankreich war vorbereitet

In August 2010 we travelled from #Sarajevo 🇧🇦 to #Zagreb 🇭🇷 by train, a ride of about 10 hours for a distance of 500 kms. At a staffed station, roughly half way, we had to wait on a siding in order to let an oncoming train pass on the main. That train, photographed through the open window of our carriage, could have been a Republika Srpska local service, hauled by a ŽRS Class 441.300 electric and composed of two former (East) German cars, still displaying their green and cream DR livery.

Pictured here is a #Vienna 🇦🇹 Type E tramcar, displaying their classical red and white livery. The destination board reads #Baščaršija, which means we weren’t quite in Vienna when I took this photo one morning in September 2008. This is actually #Sarajevo 🇧🇦, and the stop is adjacent to the city’s train station. The tram is ready to work the loop around the “Bazaar” in the old town.

Das wird dann der erste TCR-Parcours, von dem ich tatsächlich jeden Meter kenne. Und, ganz untypisch, fast vollständig befestigt: Der westliche Teil, die Bobbahn, aus Beton und im Osten geht es weiter auf der Apelova cesta (Appellstraße), die von den Österreichern angelegt wurde, im letzten Krieg von den Serben während der Belagerung genutzt wurde und seit zwei, drei Jahren asphaltiert ist. Schöne Ausblicke ins Tal inklusive.
Das Ziel und der Kontrollpunkt sind auf dem Brus, einem Ausflugsgebiet mit Restaurants und Spielplatz, das in den letzten Jahren aber – wie leider der ganze Trebević-Nordhang – zunehmend mit Apartmenthäusern und mittlerweile sogar riesigen Hotels zugebaut wird. Besonders seitdem 2018 die Seilbahn wieder eröffnet wurde, gibt es einen regelrechten Bauboom. #tcrno12 #sarajevo

Bob staza Trebević.
Im Krieg waren die Hänge des Trebević heftig umkämpft und die Bahn diente aufgrund ihrer Position und Länge als Deckung. Die Löcher wurden allerdings in den letzten Jahren ausgebessert, so dass man sie ganz gut fahren kann.
Die Gold- und Silbermedaillen gewannen 1984 übrigens sowohl im Zweier- als auch im Viererbob die Mannschaften der DDR.

The Persistence of Peace
Of all the things competing for attention on this wall, one word refused to be ignored. I found this on a street in Sarajevo. A single word, repeated three times: MIR. In Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian, mir means both peace and quiet.
