A new #meteorite has been found this afternoon in Normandie, France, as the collected first piece of the meter-sized asteroid #2023_CX1, also named #SAR2667, seen in space by amateur astronomers a few hours before it impacted the Earth atmosphere last monday. The search on place will continue with an int.al team among which a few reknown meteoricists, lead by the #FRIPON /#VigieCiel french group.

#Asteroid #Sar2667 impacted at 02:59 UT this morning, over the English Channel. It was solid cloud here in Oxfordshire but all 4 of our #RaspberryPi #MeteorCameras caught the flash through cloud. Not the most exciting video, but still cool! I can't share a direct upload but I've put the video on my You Tube channel here: https://youtu.be/aMU_aVflnp8

Did you see the incoming #asteroid overnight? The 1-m size asteroid #sar2667 / #2023CX1 was only discovered on Feb 12th and entered the atmosphere at 3am this morning. This morning, I am thinking about what role @VRubinObs's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will play in the next #Sar2667 things and bigger where there is a few hours warning in my role as LSST Solar System Science Collaboration Co-chair and the Solar System Point of contact for the LSST:UK Consortium #astrodon #astronomy #meteor

I woke up seeing all the videos of #Sar2667 breaking up from people looking between London and Paris. Roughly 5 hours from discovery to entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Don't worry, this was one was small. So it was going to be a fireworks show rather than a risk to people. There are observatories dedicated to searching for Earth impactors to give as much advanced warning, hence the 2 hour warning. #astrodon #astronomy
